Hi All,

The good folks at Earth, Wind and Rider (purveyors of incredibly lovely wool jerseys) have offered us a nice deal on a cool retro NEMBA jersey.

It would be based on there "Old School Molteni Orange/Black".

The cost would be $120.

The question I have for you is would you buy one?

You can check out Earth, Wind and Riders stuff here:

I was looking at some wool jerseys at Berlin Bike yesterday. Damn they look nice (in general).

I'm sure that there would be NEMBA folks interested.

Go for it PK, they should sell themselves. Those are of a nicer quality than the ones we (RI) had made, and ours have held up well. The EWNR jersey is well worth the $120. Those would make a really nice sponsor incentive/trail work raffle prize/general raffle prize as well...

They look like perfect attire for those late fall/early winter sundays when there are a few shotgun deer hunters in the woods, unaware of what day it is

How orange is the orange?

It's the classic "Molteni" orange.

Could we get the retro neMba logo on it? You know the one with the M as the mountain peaks?........Unfortunately I don't think I could justify 120- for a riding garment.....although I know they are REAL nice!
It would also be nice to have an 'affordable' NEMBA(short sleeve)bike jersey again --the last (brown) one not very comfortable....and some lycra shorts or bibs as well......

How do they compare to say the wool jerseys at Portland Cyclewear - http://www.portlandcyclewear.com/page/page/3163257.htm - ? Are they thicker? The team I used to ride for got some of the PC jerseys, nice Merino wool, and I think we only payed something like $60-65 for long sleeve and custom writing and we bought less than 20 jerseys total.

what he said. something with a small zipper pocket in the back for my 'stuff'.

that said, i have been converted to merino wool for riding. i get sweaters at the thrift store for $10. my wife complains that i look like a homeless guy sometimes, tho.

Out of my riding-garment price range.

Beyond the cost issue which is a big one, I rode and raced in wool jerseys (and shorts) for many years. Thanks, but I don't look back at that aspect of riding fondly. Even Merino wool was not as comfy as today's fabrics. Warm, yes. Good when you get caught in the rain< yes. scratchy, yes.

I haven't run across a newer wool jersey, shorts, sock or leg warmer that was itchy (Swobo, Surly, Spot, Portland, Ibex, Smartwool etc..). The older stuff was notoriously itchy, I rode in an old Schwinn jersey a few times and couldn't take it..

One of the nice things about wool is that it doesn't really ever smell bad. (OK, yes, you can leave it in a bag, or the trunk of a car, for a few days in the middle of summer and it'll get gross - but what won't). As long as you wash it with care (by hand) on occasion and keep moths away they're surprising durable.

umm, $120 for one of their jersey's ISN'T a deal. that's regular price! i would love to buy one of their jersey's at a real discount. heck, even 10% off for nemba members could sway me. i do love the color orange though...

i bet we could all buy a jersey from EWR in any color/style we want and JH on the Cape would magic marker any logo we want on it for free!

I have a EWR Jersey, and it is is wonderful. I find wool to be itchy, but I have a ton of Merino wool, and it's a joy to wear. In fact the FedEx guy dropped off a new SmartWool shirt for me today!

I think at $120 that it is OK to have one in your wardrobe. I bought my long-sleeve EWR from Wheelworks for $99. For a special NEMBA one, I'd like to have a short sleeve one myself, and it couldn't be more than $99.

Also, the style of the type on the front could be a deal breaker. Again, Wheelworks has a custom one that is seriously stylish, with a retro font but I didn't want to pay $100 to advertise for them. I would consider it for NEMBA.

PK, I don't know what control you have over the design, but if you need feed back, I do know a lot about typography, and would be happy to lend my opinions. PM me if I can do anything for you…
