"ANDOVER - Alan French was blazing a new trail through the state forest when he first stumbled upon an old rock quarry with a beautiful view of a bordering pond.
Harold Parker State Forest superintendents said the quarry and surrounding 11 acres or forest weren't theirs, and when French turned to the town, they also denied any ownership.
"That was back in 1994. I discovered there was no owner on record for this land," said French, the town's conservation trail overseer. "It was no-man's land."
His discovery sparked a 13-year search through century-old documents in state and town vaults for a landowner that ended up producing absolutely nothing."
