I saw a promo today for a story on Moab this Sunday at 9 o'clock on the Weather Channel of all places. It looks like a piece on extreme mountain biking.

Have you heard that there is a proposal to ban motorized vehicles in Moab? Crazy to think of the impact a motorcycle or rock crawler can have on ROCK. I find this a bit out there as Moab was founded as a mining town for uranium. I've been to Moab and had more fun watching the rock crawlers than riding on fireroads. Sure the Slickrock trail is cool, love Proquepine Rim, but come on...

I haven't heard about this proposal, but I can't imagine it will fly. Jeepers are too heavily ingrained in the Moab cultural and economical influx.

The beloved Redrock Wilderness Act, there always seems to be someone trying to throw a monkey in the works. The unfortunate aspect of this is that there are more tree huggers then 4 wheel enthusiasts. Even more disappointing then the effect on the jeeps is that with the wording of the proposal could also affect many of the bike trails as well. The wheeling and biking businesses are the mainstays of the local economy. As supportive as I am to an increase in wilderness areas though haven’t these people picked on Utah enough, after all there are 49 other states that have land as well.

So I'm watching the Moab special with my wife Sunday night. As were watching one particular segment where riders are doing spectacular endos, she says to me, "you can go there if you want". Hmmm. Is there a hidden message here. I wouldn't mind getting there someday but I can think of a few other places out West more XC in nature that I would rather check out first.

I caught a couple of minutes of it. I recognized a few trails. Makes me want to go back!
I would also agree that there are better xc areas than Moab, but that is what is great there... many lines for many abilities.
