Can anyone make a recommendation on where to go cc skiing based on current conditions in NH? Is Bear Brook any good? Any good web sites that provide trail reports? I did a quick web search but didn't find anything.

I'm new to cc skiing and I'm just looking for some non-groomed trails to get out for a couple of hours.

With the lack of fresh snow and the super cold conditions around here, I would imagine everything around here is way too icy. So unless Waterville Valley has had some fresh snowfall lately...

Windblown looks like it's really good, so that's where I'm heading tomorrow. Planning on bringing the Outtabounds and Excursions, and spending a few hours climbing Barrett Mountain and skiing the mountain trails. I just hope to freaking god I don't have to resort to klister.

try these links for ski area conditions and off-track ski ideas in NH:

gotta put this one out as well:

If you are in NH already then I'd be all over Waterville Valley and Jackson.

I like Windblown in New Ipswich for a nice facility with variable terrain that is not too far away. They have some groomed, and some un-groomed trails, their website is usually pretty accurate about conditions.

Hi guys,

Thanks for links. I didn't make it to NH or VT for any skiing. Ended up taking advantage of last couple of days of winter by heading North for some snowmobiling instead. Crossed the Balsams groomed cc ski trails a couple of times while up there. Those trails are always freshly groomed with almost no signs of use.

Based on the 10 day forecast, spring is quickly arriving. Maybe I'll get more into cc skiing next year.

I just went with our dog after work in the Stow, MA woods. 52 degrees and still good cover in woods. I mostly just make new tracks and that was fun - the crust softened up good into a corn/rice blend.

Windblown is closing today (Friday) according to the latest report. Guess I'll be tuning bikes instead of prepping skis!
