Looking out my window I see a sea of water on the old ice/snow. I was hoping it would be cold enough this weekend to get some studded rides in but 50 degrees tomorrow? What do they think this is? The end of winter? By Tuesday it will be cold again but then it is Tuesday...

Just returned from a Cape appt, and things are lookin real soaked, standing water everywhere. Much of the ground seems to be still semi frozen, so water is standing on top creating large mini lakes in the woods...with the temps rising, and the ground thawing, this is a recipe for early spring conditions (mud)...which means It's lookin' like it's time to drag out the Road bike...I'm planning to do a metric century this W/E.

Agreed. Time to "save the trails" for a while. I tuned (and polished up) the road bike this week and will be hitting the pavement tomorrow, which I'm actually looking forward to. And DST is less than a couple weeks away, so the road will then be a good option after work as well in case the trails are still soup.

Your rain and floods is a pile of snow on the trails up here. They have been so nicely packed and rideable in the mornings, now I have to sweat it out again snowshoeing to pack them down.
That's ok because my first hike is to go bc snowboarding.
I've been lusting after a Raliegh Rush Hour at the LBS in anticipation of mud season. Haven't been on the road in years!

caution on the road! piles of sand, gravel and washed out pot holes everywhere.

I have a hardtail GT Avalanche with "mild" knobbies set up for those conditions. I would never take out a nice road bike at this time of the year.

Just got back from a hike at the Snip. Definitely rideable. 100% snow/ice coverage. I'm hoping it will all freeze back up tonight for a ride tomorrow morning. I think right now it would be a bit tough to get traction, but frozen it should be great. Zero chance of trail damage, as there's no dirt showing anywhere.

A 'cross bike is perfect for the roads right now. 700x35 and you can ride over most of the crap.

Got out for a quick hour on the road SS today. Other than the PUDDLES it was fine! And that bike is so much easier to clean up than the one with all those gears. ugh.
