Today Slider convinced me to ride at his local spot. I don't know what it is about this place that I just don't like. I think its the lack of rocks. With the conditions we have right now the presence (or lack of) rocks makes no difference since the snow is covering everything. In any event it was a great ride. After 3 hours of pedaling in this stuff my legs were done to a crisp. Another stellar winter ride...

We found a couple of things to play around on:

Slider's an old man with aching knees, so no pix if him hucking. Soon, maybe in warmer weather, he'll atone. Did catch some nice Jisch mid-air pix, though.

The last pic is the edge of an ice atoll held over the river by a rock. It is about 15" deep. Cool.

I was damn close to making the drive, then I checked the local loop Friday night. It was really in great winter shape. Did three hours around the lake on Sat, then convinced Jisch to give it a go on Sun.

The cool part is we managed to extend the out-and-back part a lot. Jisch had previously ridden with some locals starting from UConn, who got him to a point that he recognized when we hit it from the other direction. On my own, I never could find the trailhead after a short road section, so that was my turnaround. Jisch knew the secret trail entrance, using the first 20 yards or so of someone's driveway, that adds pretty much as many miles as you want, and it is all good single track along a river. My local loop just quadrupled in length.

Otis looked awesome, and I do still miss the place.
