Looking to head down there for some snow-free trails.
Never been to either one, but judging by what I've heard/seen of the terrain, I'd probably be more interested in checking out Otis.

Ride light over long travel. It is the most fun roller coaster you'll ever get the pleasure to ride.
I'm still working on a companion to make the drive. Long shot, but working on it.

I'll be on my do-it-all "5+5" Splinter ER.
It's the only bike I've got ready to go at the moment. :o
Looking like Saturday will be somewhat better weatherwise at this point, so that's what we're shooting for. Sounds like some of the VLMC crew might make it too. :rad:

Not familiar with the trails, but I'm hoping to ride for around 4 hours and end up totally gutted. :D
We'll be heading down from the Leominster/Fitchburg area.

I'll be there, with a few other guys from the VLMC and I know at least a couple of us will be on big bikes, so we may end up in a couple of different groups, fast and slow. I'd bet the slower group will be a reasonable pace for a beginner.

There's a handfull of us going to be down at the lot across from the Falmouth Animal Hospital around 11:30 on Saturday morning. That's on the right side of rt 151 just east of rt 28. Look for a blue Dodge pickup.

So what are conditions like at Otis now? CT is snowed in, and it will take lots of melting and then a deepfreeze for it to be rideable by the weekend.
Might give me more leverage with Jisch....

i'm pretty sure the snow didnt amount to anything. My folks live down there so I'll give em a ring. I would like to jump on this ride. I'll be on a orange chameleon ss. I'll park over at the 151 dirt mount..black explorer.
Slap...When is the meeting time? I know the area somewhat and can definetly get us good and lost!!

Slider if you want to you could stop by my place in Providence (right off 95) and we could head down from there. I've never been to Otis and wouldn't mind checking it out. Just to be sure - no studs needed down there right now?

no studs, trails are firm hardpack sandy soil. Is it only an 1130 ride going off?

Thanks! I'm gonna try to make it. Just found directions on BS and will try to meet up with Splat's group.

No studs needed. About an inch of light snow fell onto bare ground last night. Today's bright sunshine & mid 30's temps have melted much of it away. Tonight's lows are supposed to hit 15, and tomorrow's high looks like around 25-30. The wind will be blowin though...bring a shell... (the wind comes right off the buzzards bay/nantucket sound).
If all goes as planned, I'm going to try to make it down.

bdee,
PM me your phone info. We can talk tonight. I know the place reasonably well if we don't hook with others, but am not up to your pace if you push.

Are you parking on Quaker Road off of Wild Harbor Road? It looks like its to the West of rt. 28 not East. I've never been there so I have to be real sure of the directions. Is everybody meeting at this same location?

Make sure you guys get a map. You can get really lost at Otis. It's awesome there. There are some 6 foot drops, some skinnies, crazy hill climbs, awesome rock gardens, and amazing singletrack. I love it there. I ride a 6x6 kona coiler and it's the perfect set up, but anything with suspension will so fine, I don't know about a rigid though. I might show up. What time is it?

How was the ride, the conditions? I rode TOT early this AM and it was ok, but way more ice than I expected. Hoping to do Otis tomorrow, so I'm curious if there was as much ice.
Slappy
February 24th, 2007, 06:20 PM
Very little ice, conditions were really good for most of the ride, but started getting melty/sloppy later on when the temps got a little higher. Unless it gets nice and cold for tomorrow or you ride early, probably end up beating up the trails pretty good.
Damn good time today. :D

With the snow and warming temps, I have a feeling the trails at Otis and TOT will be soupy for a while.
