At the local recycle center today, I spied a couple sets of shortie skis that were too good to pass up. With the upcoming blizzard, the workshop wood stove chugging away, and an extra bike frame sitting in the back of the truck, I wondered if I would be able to make the bike and skiis into a snow bike.
Last year, here on the forums, there was some talk about home made units.
Anybody want to share their ideas again, the results, the problems? How to attach the skis to the fork? Ski width? Keep the points up, etc.?

Thanks, AA.
I'm thinking machined aluminum blocks for the ski/bike attachments, vs the wooden 2x4's. But, maybe the wood blocks to see if it works. That is, IF we ever get any useable snow!
Also thinking about putting a spring (bungie cord) from the front ski point to the handlebar to keep it from burrying itself, and me doing a face plant.
A wide comfortable seat would help on the other end, considerably.

Just got my 12 yr old's ski bike together yesterday! He insisited on trying it out in the pouring rain. Good thing too since everything is a solid sheet of ice now! He liked it! Cost? $0. That would make it priceless, right?
Rather than 2X4 I had some old oak from a stair tread. Glued and screwed. i don't think it is going anywhere!

You can find good deals on these conversion kits on ebay...they work really well.

Thanks! That wasn't as easy as I had thought it would be! Turns out that a BMX frame works well that way because of the raised BB compared with the rear dropout.
My kid didn't want pegs at first and I pointed out that should he actually get some air then it would be his seat, and only the seat that he would land on. he opted for pegs! Smart boy.
