Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has ever seen how much of a difference a full cable run for a derailleur (or brake for that matter) over the open cable for sections. Especially for areas like the chainstay where the amount of cable saved is like 8 inches. Does that really make a lot of difference?
Since winter might actually be here, I remembered that last time my der cable froze on the portion under the BB due to the open sections allowing water in. I was gong to run a full length one to avoid this but was curious if anyone had thoughts on it.

Thanks
MIke

I have run full length cables on my Avid Mechanicals since I've had them. I can easily go a year or more without having to change cables.

My new bike has a full length rear derailler cable, it works great, have had no issues, but its only been 6 months or so. IMHO the small additional weight is well worth the extra coverage from a maintenance perspective.

I don't know if it will offer much of an advantage from an ice perspective since most of my problems with ice have had to do with the derrailler itself icing up, not the cable.
