I show up for Sunday mornings advertised ride at the Dracut state forest. I expected a few of the local Merrimack Valley members, a couple of North Shore NEMBA members and a few riders from NEBC (Northeast Bicycle Club). I know the weather was nice but was I surprised to see about 26 riders waiting to ride! Well the first order of business was to break up the group.
The North Shore group broke off and did their thing while I took hold of a group of 16 riders. Surprisingly it went very well. I kept a sane pace up front while Barry took care of the sweep position. When I got back to the parking lot I was told that another large group had just gone in and there was yet another large group of riders preparing to take off.
The real shocker was that for the entire 2 and 1/2 hour ride, we never saw another rider out there. That's a nice reminder to us here in the Merrimack Valley that our new trail development and master plan for the park is right on target. The new trails have been well received and well spread out through out the 1100 acres that make up the Lowell Dracut Tyngsboro state forest. At this rate, I think we may soon need a bigger parking lot. Meanwhile we'll continue to press on with new trail development, trail maintenance and the addition of new technical features where suitable.
