View Full Version : Dean Ti post?

I've bent just about every brand of seatpost. 9.5" exposed is a lot of leverage for a 235 pounder like me. So I am going to try a Dean Ti post, appropriate, since the bike is a Dean, too.
The $100 fee isn't too bad, especially if it lasts more than a few months. Anyone have any experience with these? Other Ti posts?

Slider,
I bought a Dean Ti post in 1999 & it is still in service to this day. I now weigh 195 but have been as heavy as 220 while using that seatpost. I'm 6'4" w/ long legs so the post has always been way out of the frame & I have had no problems. A bonus feature is the flex in the post smoothes out the ride just a little bit.

Exactly what I was hoping to hear, AA. Thanks.
Dean is waiting for some Ti stock to arrive, but I'm there as soon as it happens. It'll join some other recent upgrades, including lock-on grips (awesome), the Judy SL off my old Giant (flexy, but light and a proper 80mm), Avid cable disc in front (way better than V brakes, maybe not as powerful as hydraulics), and an XT/Mavic front wheel.
I think the itch to upgrade comes from that damn Ted taking so long. The brakes were originally meant for it, and the used back wheel intended for it will also end up on the Dean, once Dean retro-fits the mount. Can't send it back for the work until the Ted is operational, though. No telling how long that will take.

I have had a Dean Ti post for a long time..since 97 or so. While I am not super big...( range from 175-185ish ) I have been running it on my XC bike which is a 16" frame so lots of post exposed. I also sit as much as possible except for descents and the post has held up like a champ. I can definately feel the flex and it really lessens the sting of roots and rocks on climbs, but it hasnt let me down. No bending, no creaking, clamp hasnt unbonded ( which I believe was a problem way back but Dean has resolved). IMO its a great product

Ted ended up contracting with Risse to resolve the non-delivery from the first supplier for the rear triangles, the source of the delay. I don't quite grasp the whole story, but the first guy didn't deliver for some reason. Reading between the lines, there are money issues, but I can't say for sure if Ted or the supplier is at fault. Ted did offer me my money back a few weeks ago, but in for a dime, in for a dollar. My understanding at this point is that the frame is due at any time, but Ted is due for a follow up call this week since I've heard that before.
