I have an older Ted Fs with the battle rearend. It constantly ghostshifts while riding over sharp edged bumps at speed. I have tried full lenght housing, zipp tied the housing loosely around the swingarm, dremeled out the cable guides so the housing would have no tension, replaced the swingarm bushings.... At times it shifted so much it threw the chain off the front.
What next ? I already have two Single speeds (sure, I know, I need another), and I LOVE this bike. The handling and ride is exactly what I like. The drive train is Shimano 8 sdp set up as a 1x8.
I hate to see this become a wall ornament in the garage.

Few things I would check - in this order:
- deraileur hanger alignment
- how's the der position look in the middle gear(b screw)
- chain length good?
- der in decent shape?
- effective chainline look good

other things to check (the "DoH!" things I've found before)
- cassette lockring tightened
- rear hub bearings properly adjusted
- wheel all the way in the drops
- worn out drivetrain

I had a problem with ghost shifting, that took a long time to solve. It was the derailleur (old and loose)--I replaced it with a new one which solved the problem.

Always bring it to a bike shop too. Then you'd have several knowledgable bikers looking at it.

That's a pretty complete list from CP. Maybe add one more: put the frame on an alignment jig and see if anything is bent. Not sure where you're located, onespd, but Ted himself could help with that if you are anywhere near southern NH.

I do get to Ted's area occasionally, usually on weekends/holidays. I e-mailed him about repainting the frame and will follow that up with the shifting problems. I thought I'd throw out to the masses to get some input. I do know some of you are waiting for your new frame and don't want to take too much of Ted's time.....

Take a good look at your bottom bracket. A 1x8 is tough if the bb isn't well centered, you may be causing to much of a cross gear. Also be sure your chain is long enough, to much tension is worse than to little because the derailler tenion will pull on the chain. The chain should not stress your r.der or be to floppy. All the previous advice should also be checked. good luck bro!

I started tinkering with the Ted.... at the same time I could hear a tiny voice from the corner of the garage. Coming from my Ss Gunnar. Sounded lonely and a little angry. Since I bought the new 1x1, the gunnar has been hanging in a corner. One thing led to another and the Gunnar has a new set of tubless wheels from the Ted. New (used) fork, flat bars and bar ends. 1x1 got the thomson post and stem as well as the SS cranks.
1x1 becomes an adventure bike, fully rigid and 2.7s. Gunnar becomes my fast and familar ride. The only casualty is the Ted. Sitting on the work bench..naked..silent.. waiting for new paint... pics and more to follow.
