The first thing I'd like to "upgrade" on the new steed, is the tire(s) or at the very least the rear. It came with WTB exiwolfs which are 2.35, big enough casing width for what I typically like, but the tread pattern sux IMO.
Anyone tried anything big (think 2.35) with some decent knobbies?

Of course slippery leaves make things difficult lately, b/c I keep spinnin the rear climbing...and corners are too scary

What'ja got? I want a big knobby tire soon

While it's not really huge the WTB MotoRaptor 29er hooks up well. Go for the cheapo version as DNA casing tends to rip easily in our neck of the woods (just ask the Mutano Raptor on the back of my Walt). I've got a spare one you can try out if need be. Plenty of tread on it as it was my front on the KM.

I run an Exi up front on the KM and it blows in mud. When conditions are nice the Exi is a great tire, especially on rock faces.

I really want to get some Panaracer Rampage tires as soon as they are available again - they sold out everywhere right away.

Chris,

I have been very happy with the Maxxis Ignitors (F&R), not quite as big as the exi but they dont pack up in damp conditions like most of the WTB tires. The bonty jones xr (2.3) is plenty big and works well as a ft tire but the sidewall is paper thin so they are a poor choice for new england IMO.

I've got one ride on the Kenda Nevegal and it seems to be what you're looking for. I used it on the back of my KM in leafy conditions and loose rock climbs and it held better than other tires I've tried, which includes Bonty Jones ACX and IRC notos. I really liked the notos too though. Also, I jumped on Kenda's clearance sale and picked up the Klaw--that thing has gigantic nobs, but lower volume.
