Well I got my money's worth out of my 95' XT's they were original from when I bought the bike. They were givin me some problems so working on them the other day, they broke with alot of help from me. I hope to pick up a set from Ebay or go SS. Since this is my only bike.... what to do?

Are you asking about the pros/cons of SS vs geared?

Thanks, Ill take a look. I really wanted to ride this weekend. I thought about just setting the rear dearrailuer High/low screw? in a bit so I could get like a 18 tooth cog. Has anyone done this just to get a ride in?

Yup - that works.

Nother little temp SS trick you can do is:

-deinstall the der cable and housing
-cut the top 6" or so of der cable off (so you have a short piece with the little cast end still on it)
-insert the 6" cable into the barrel adjuster on the derailleur (cast end last)
-position the derailleur on the cog you want it and tighten things up, cut off excess cable

You can fine tune the adjustment with the barrel adjuster on the der. Might wanna shorten up the chain a little too.

Works pretty good for a quick fix.
