The next Trail Maintenance day at Wompatuck State Park is scheduled
for Sunday, October 22, 8:30 am.( coffee and sign-in time)
There will be a couple of mountain bike riding crews and walkers as
well. Bring heavy work gloves if you have them, even old riding
gloves are OK. Wear heavy clothing approriate to the weather and that
you don't mind getting alittle dirty. Heavier shoes or boots are good
since some trails are wet......
Clear safety or riding glasses are a good idea. Bug spray, too.
Hand loppers and/or a folding trail saw will be useful, if you have
them......bring water and a snack .......We'll work till approx.
11:00,and we'll have a light lunch after, with the optional group ride
to round out the day.
IF you have any trail issues that should be taken care of, PLEASE come
to the next meeting of the Friends of Wompatuck, this coming Tuesday,
Oct 17th, at 7:30 pm, at the visitor center. (If you can't make it,
let me know your thoughts). The list of projects for the day is still
being formulated, so any input would be appreciated. We'll also need a
few leaders to get things done, as we'll likely be heading out in a
few different directions.........

Sponsored by SEMASS NEMBA, Friends of Wompatuck, and R.E.I.

We got a LOT accomplished with approx. 24 people. One big
rolling(riding) crew armed with loppers and trail saws doing
much-needed cutbacks, two walking crews doing the same, and another
crew working on a new, short trail diversion that will feature a
flowy singletrack(to replace an eroding uphill) with a nice
challenging freeride five-foot 'drop' for those who enjoy that sort of
thing...that one will be completed hopefully by spring when we finish
the 'tranny' and post some good warning signage.....
REI and Whole Foods was in attendance, providing pizza, beverages, bananas, and nice
technical fabric 'volunteer' t-shirts. The lunch was huge for me, as I
didnt have to run out and pick it up and was able to focus on the
tasks...............
BikeBarn provided us with some of the crew also, as well as kept the
pace going ;-)
We had Bill Boles, Malcom Neilson, P-Trick, and ranger Steve Gammon as
trail bosses, and people from MIT, BU, REI, FOW, SEMASS NEMBA,
DCR,...........
The weather was PERFECT!
BIG THANKS to all who participated. Well Done!
