Can you share more details? I'm looking for a place to take the family next summer. Idaho is on the list. What's the riding like? I heard its really smooth. Any hints on where the good stuff is.. where you fly into etc. I just haven't seen that many trips out there. Hey wait - write an article for Singletracks that way you won't have to answer my questions.

Yea, I would love to know where in Idaho you were, what trail you rode, etc... I did a short ride in the White Clouds two years ago after backpacking the Sawtooth Wilderness. Good stuff out there for sure.

Mac,

The guys swimming together were in the hot spring that was at the end of a ride. We had four rides that ended that way. Can you say AHHHH!

John,

We rode in Boise, McCall, Stanley and Sun Valley/Kethcum. Each one of these areas has its own flavor.
Boise is mostly foothills in the 6000' elevation range. There are no techs on these trails but if you don't pay attention to your speed you will go down....hard. These are very fast, very swoopy, VERY FUN trails. If you ever want to go at race pace without being in a race this is the place. You're likely to see other riders so be nice.
McCall has some rough and technical with a decidedly "out there" feel. We saw wolf and mountain lion tracks in the dusty trails. You are not likely to see other riders here.
Stanley has big mountains (11,000'+) with scenics that hurt your eyes (or was that the forest fire smoke). These trails are definitely out there too. You don't want any mechanicals that you can't fix on the trail. You'll have amazing views of the Sawtooth Mountains but please don't ride there it is a very high profile wilderness area.
Sun Valley/Ketchum trails are a bit more civilized and you might run into the Latte` crowd or even an occasional celebrity type but they are harmless. The trails entail some climbing but you are rewarded with downhills lasting an hour or more.....at speed!
Our rides usually lasted six hours or more and I ran out of water/fluids twice with a 100oz bladder and two water bottles. Be prepared for the dry climate, altitude and climbing.

If anybody needs more specific info drop me a line.
