Nice, I helped in hooking up W for that ride and sent them up to Cape Able a couple weeks before he got here. Secret Agent Toddski happy to serve my country.

How fun could it have been? I'm sure the secret service had all kinds of rules and regulations for the group.
1. Always have someone riding on either side of the President. (Have to have bullet shields)
2. Don't go faster than 15 mph. No singletrack. No steep downhills. And no terrain where the president could possibly endo.
3. Always always always keep the secret service agents in sight.
4. Do not discuss politics or Cindy Sheehan with the President.
5. No praying to Allah.
Those are the obvious ones.

I thought the article was great. If the report given by the ride leader is to be believed then the behavior of the participants was exemplary. Their decision to ride like they normally would, and discuss the subjects they normally would was extraordinary. I applaud them.
The President of The United States of America is a mountain biker. If one had to decide weather it is better for mountain biking if the President is or is not a mountain biker, it stands to reason it is better that the President is then if the President was not. Doesn’t it.
At any rate i think it would have been great fun, even with all the rules. I like rules, and besides, talking politics or praying to Allah are not on my list of fun ride prerequisites :)

Great article. 'Haven't ridden with Pat (Hackleman) in a wicked long time. He used to work as a guide for Escape Adventures, and has worked at a few shops in the Boston Area as well.

Granted it's a fuzzy pic, but I find it eerie that the guy immediately to the right of the President in the picture looks exactly like Richard Nixon.

Obviously they did a background check if you did not get invited to join.
I'd have asked him what he can do about Wilderness restrictions on MTBs. Cool stuff, anyway.

Interesting. I truly have no idea if I'd have been able to keep my mouth shut.
Kinda like meeting the Devil. Do you buy him a drink in return for the best stories you ever heard?

Ha ha Rob, yeah I didn’t get invited because it was a secret ride that I wasn’t supposed to figure out two weeks in advance!, that’s his loss we didn’t have a safety meeting out on the trail, lord knows he needs one with all his crashes! It’s killing me not releasing the details how it all went down… but seriously it is a matter of national security and I want that dude to ride as much as he can… funny thing this game mountain biking espionage, those secret service bikers have got one cool ass job! For years I’ve hoped that W would get out on the trails near his family home and instill a little credibility and inspiration to the locals who are trying to protect access and build new trails around there, hope this helps them out some.
Like the guy or not, we do all have one common bond with W and share the passion for riding dirt. I hardly expect the President to be a champion of MTB access with all the crap going on in the world today, but as an ex-president, when he’s done with his current responsibilities and has a bit more free time, I can think of no better person to work with. It’s evident to me now that there is indeed good people within our ranks working hard behind the scenes to develop and nurture a advocacy relationship with Bush, and that is a good thing for us all…. well that is unless there is oil under your trails, in that case your F@cked!

I can see it now. Slider whips out his frame pump and tries to stick it in the Prez's back wheel just as the secret service agent is reaching for a can of mace. But seriously, does the Prez stay on smooth singletrack or does he get in the rough stuff.

Back wheel my ass. We're talking front wheel, at the top of the biggest drop on the loop.
