Just moved to the area and been off my bike for a while. Looking to get back on and for some good riding in the Athol area, single or double, for early AM rides.
Anyone know of any good trails?

Welcome to NEMBA, mxwlljkyll!
Not sure about Athol itself, but there's loads of great riding in the Petersham area, as well as Wendell SF. Hook up with Hammerhead, Superb Man and GandALF2. They'll help you find some great areas.

What PK said - get in touch with Alf (GandAlf2) in Petersham - big group rides up there I think on Wednesday evenings. Might be some that can arrange to meet you for AM rides as well. Beware, they tend to move along pretty quickly (in spite of the rocks etc.) so it might be difficult and/or frustrating if you are just getting going on the trails.
Other nearby areas are around Tully Dam and in Erving State Forest. I don't know anyone who regularly rides there, but ask around.
I could meet up in Wendell for moderate pace early AM rides (5:00 AM 1 - 2 hours - with lights!) if you want on relatively short notice - send me a pm.

Leominster and the Midstate aren't too far east of you either...

You should go to the Tully Lake area.On the north side of the Lake there is a designated 7 mile bike loop, mix of single and double track. If you go to the picnic area, there are maps available. Near by are some state forests and some wildlife management areas that you shoud check out.

Yes and yes. Much of the Harvard Forest and the Federated Forest are webbed with super singletrack, the same is true for much of the private land up there. Just stay out of the MDC's areas - they don't like anyone (except folks in overpowered fishing boats, or the occasional hiker) accessing their territory.
Talk to Alf or any of the other PMBRs.

1000 + acres and trails link in to abutting town land. We did some bridge work there several years ago. Definatly worth hitting up if you live in the Athol area
