So, if anyone is into it I'm down with a SS only ride @ NF this Saturday. I don't really know Wompy so it would be confined to the marked loop - unless someone in the group knows the rest of the park and wants to expand the loop. I can provide some post ride beverages and whatnot if anyone is interested. This would be a brisk paced ride (not a race, that's on Sunday) with a few BS/refueling stops. If you want to join the ride but have gears plan to ride at the back so as not to clog up the flow on the climbs - and if you are on a 29er you're welcome no matter what ')

I plan on getting up there by 9:30ish - if interested reply, PM or email
(mtbdee at hotmail dot com).

I love it when SS only ride leaders try to be polite, “well maybe if you have gears you can ride in the back”, F that! I say! It either a single speed group ride or it isn’t. I will be there with my 1FG and am interested in this pseudo SS group ride, but not sold on it yet. Can I just bring my geared bike instead bdee, I promise not to shift? (when you’re not looking that is). lol

(when I rode with AoF at KT, I conciously kept in the middle ring so I didn't get in his way, as us gearies often do on SS rides. Well we only get in the way until the SSers have to shift to "granny" (i.e. walk)).

Hey I’ll be hosting a “plump lovers” picnic, you can bring your skinny girlfriend but she can’t eat!

Hey, I thought that was our secret!

I am really bumming about this, I am the best man in my brothers wedding and the bachelor party is Saturday.

Can't we all Just Ride Along?

How does 10:00 sound? I'm planning on being up there around 9:30 - I think it takes about an hour to get there from Prov.

Sounds good to me. I'll be there with bells on. Oh, wait. My SS doesn't have a bell on it, but I'll be there anyway.

Ahh that’s you, good to put a face with a forum name! Yeah that was a fun ride, too bad you peeled off JH. Well after pedaling my arse off trying to go the same speed as Bdee and Mario on their 29’s for the rest of the advanced loop, I have seen the light and reluctantly convinced that 29 is the way to go. Now I’ve ridden with 29ers before, but Aggie is just not a great place to see the advantages of a bigger wheel and really on some of trails I’ll stick with my belief that it is a hindrance... plus my 29 bros have that annoying wanker 29 tude. But at Wompy on those long rooty straight a ways, Bdee and Mario were just effortlessly floating over all that rough stuff and my little girly man 26’s were bumpdiddy bump all over the place and I was expending double the amount of energy to just keep up with them. Next bike for me… 29!

Anyway great ride guys! Nice meeting you all.

did you have an orangey cannondale?
while the 29er is nice, you were having fun on the 26er. i rode behind you on the 'wompy DH" (ha!) and while i could just blast down the middle, you were flitting back and forth across the trail to find a clean line, throwing in some bmx style. so on rooty narrow singletrack (little lateral choice), the 29er will help, but i think you know how to use the added 'flickability' of the 26er.

consider throwing a 29er front wheel on the Cdale with a headshok. but that might cost as much as a new 29er SS!

Yeah yeah, that’s me. So I am interested in the 69ner concept and have thought about putting that new Lefty 29 on the front of my 1FG or building up a Carver with all the spare parts that I have laying around. I do have concerns about losing the ‘flickabilty’ and I’ve got short legs… but I’ve seen enough riders now ripping it up on 29’s to sway me to the Dark Side, seems like a 29 would be a great addition to the quiver. The big question now is which one; there are so many good choices for 07’….decisions, decisions.

what;s the lefty 29? can you get that on it's own or only on that complete bike? i have a headshok merlin i would love to set up with one of those... i am hesitant to modify a reguler one, to 29er,which i have seen people do.

i would love a headshok 29.

I had a great time meeting you guys at Wompy. I was wearing the yellow skate helmet. I rode a 96'er at Pedro's, but everybody was going slow, so I couldn't judge the speed aspect, but it rode smooth with the 29 front. It was also a rigid SS, and it felt like it had possibly 2" of travel on the front.

JH check out the CDale website, their 29 offering this year is called the “Caffeine”, I think the 29 Lefty is slightly different than a 26, but yeah you can order just a fork… that would be sick on the Merlin, do like a 1x9.
