I've been looking for some new tires and amazed @ the lack of choices from my LBS (Landrys). Anyone know of a bike shop in the Metrowest area (or beyond) with a nice selection of tires?

The internet stores are your best option if you know what you are looking for. Here are a few of my favorites.....
http://www.cambriabike.com/
http://www.greenfishsports.com/
http://www.jensonusa.com/
http://www.performancebike.com/index.cfm
http://www.nashbar.com/
http://www.blueskycycling.com/
I'm sure there is more but these are my choices.. Hope the list helps out a bit.

Depends on what type of tires you're looking for. There are several shops in the MW area that carry a good tire selection. Some seem to specialize in the XC side of things, while others have a better DH/FR selection. More info needed.

I ended buying Maxxis Minion's 2.35 @ EMs, last week.

I have ridden nothing but Tioga DH 2.3s for the last 3-4 years. Run with just the right amount of air (27 psi for me) they grip like nothing else (or so I thought).

My new bike came with 2.5 Minions. They are just as grippy, maybe more, and have lower rolling resistance. I have these things up to 35 psi or so. The Minions get really sloppy down around 25 psi - they roll off the rim. The Tiogas will roll too, but not as easily.

YMMV,
John

I am running "ghetto tubeless" on my bike with Maxxis Minion 2.5's. At the end of the ride yesterday my rear tire was a bit low, I attributed that to an air burp or two (well since its the back tire, maybe its a fart or two). When I got home I found the tire completely flat. I pumped it up and found that the sidewall had worn through - and its threadbare in many other spots.

I do a lot of rock riding with my bike and that means the sidewalls are going to slide down rocks occasionally, however, having a tire last only 2-3 months is crazy. I was able to get the Stans to seal the rip, but I'll have to change that tire before the next ride - that wear spot was the first of many that are about to go.

I don't think running tubeless had any affect on the sidewall. If I had a tube in there, it would have been sticking through the slit (or close to it). I did a short ride behind my house with the Stans sealed rip. Pretty amazing that stuff will seal a 1" long rip like that.

I suggest if you know what you want, ask your LBS to order them. Everything on the internet is available through them. If they give you the 'tude you oughtta go to another LBS.
Dave's Bike Infirmary in Milton is great with special orders--usually he'll get what you want in a couple days, his prices are great too!
