Where have all the photos gone? Gone to other web sites everyone.

This forum has been bereft of photos lately!

Post 'em if you got 'em.

I've got a crush of pics and video I'm uploading tonight. All from Vietnam, some good, some suck, all of people far braver than I.

The videos from the camera look great. However, once uploaded to YouTube, they totally suck. Grainy, choppy, whole nine yards. Just not the same...

For example, Pete going OTB:

Anyways...

Pete gritting it out:

I have messed around with YouTube quite a bit. You have to plan it out a little. Rather than taking video holding the camera - put it on the ground in a strategic area, or hold it really still - don't pan if you can avoid it. If you move the camera around, every pixel in the picture is changing at once, its too much for the compression (I'll bet those videos look ok on your camera).

Its a limitation to YouTube, but it is a good place to put vids because anyone with Flash installed (everyone) can view it.

John

Check out the difference in quality between these two videos:

Bad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1L97yFDT-I

Good:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9u6Zd2fVG9Q

Both taken with the same camera and stored with the same compression.

So I don't get any style points, but I ventured out to the dirt jumps last night with Quo Fan. I'm relatively smooth at least.

Nice Pics there Mark.

My digital camera died after 3 years of abuse. Frankly I'm surprised it lasted this long. I'm in the market and should be back up with more pictures shortly.

Guilty. These forums seem dead lately. I suppose posting elsewhere does not liven them up any....

Anyone know why some if the pictures show up as "thumbnail" and some are full size?

The thumbnails are from pictures people uploaded directly to NEMBA, the full size ones are linked over to pictures loaded on other sites (i.e. photobucket or the like).

I don't think IAB made that one, but he's damned good on logs and skinnnies and whatnot.

Me, I suck at em. :(

I used to suck at riding logs. I put a couple up in my yard and now I'm pretty good, not great, but all right.

The first thing you need to be able to do is bail. Bails are usually sidehops, small wheely drops or just rolling off. Riding flats surely helps with exiting quickly if you have to. Look out for side hops to the left - if you don't go out far enough, you can kiss that derrailler and/or the hanger good bye.

Once you realize that getting off the log is not going to involve pain, you can do the next thing: relax. My trials buddy showed me this trick - I was having trouble staying on my 4x4 teeter totter. He took a 4x4 off the pile and put it right on the ground. I rode it perfectly 10x, right off the bat. It proved my issue was confidence, not control, once I was confident I could ride the 4x4, I could relax. Next time you're on a narrow trail or a rut in the trail, notice how well you can track on that narrow strip. Log riding is no different.

Last - look down the log, not at your wheel, aiming for the end of the log means far fewer adjustments which lead to instability.

Miller's Pond in CT is loaded with log rides, but I can't get on any of them. I gotta work on getting through non-perfect approaches. All the logs in my ride are smooth ride ups.

Photobucket (or any other site where they are stored). Right click on a photo and choose "properties", it will show you the source.

I signed up with SmugMug a few months ago. I think it's $30 a year (I forget), and it's a dream. Easy to use, custom URLs, great interface, low limits, and no editing of your photos (which really isn't a problem for me...)

So, I go out and take a bunch of photos, upload them to smugmug, and then using the tagging features of vBulletin, do the following:

1. Go to: http://imploded.smugmug.com/gallery/1138754
2. Copy the URL to my image. (Right click the image, choose "Copy image location" in Mozilla)
3. In a post, type {img}, paste the URL, and type {/img} (Substitue [ and ] for { and })

http://imploded.smugmug.com/photos/53060236-M.jpg

Viola! You have images in your post.

Cheers,

-Andrew
