NEMBAFest at Wompy
Topeak-Kenda MTB Adventure
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN
RE-SCHEDULED TO SATURDAY, SEPT. 9th!
NEMBA's Premier Riding Event of the Year!
Our mountain bike festival is just around the corner -- September 9th. Come for the day, or if you wish to make a weekend out of it, there will be camping the night before.
There will be all sorts of led rides for people of all abilities, including some family rides, and you'll be able to participate in the Mountain Bike Olympics --log pulls, wheelie contests, tire tosses, bunny hopping, limbo and more. The NEMBAfest is the largest of the Topeak-Kenda MTB Adventure Series, presented by Dirt Rag Magazine.
Check out the industry expo -- get some great deals on bike stuff or demo some of the latest and greatest mountain bikes.
You can even bring all your old bike junk and set up in the Bike Swap Zone! And bring your old used inner tubes to be re-cycled at the Wingnut Re-cycle Center, so the good folks at Wingnut can turn them into useable products and keep them out of the landfill.
Wompatuck State Park offers fantastic singletrack, as well as mellow trails for novice and family riding. We'll have many miles of marked trails for you to explore the forest and get your fill of great New England singletrack.
For camping, come after 12pm on Saturday. Make sure you bring everything you need since it's unsupported -- we'll try to have a nice bonfire for everyone under the stars. There is only an additional $15 charge to come spend the night.
Registration: Registration begins at 9AM on Saturday
Camp the night of the Fest and stay for the Sunday Race !
Check back here soon for details on coming the day before to do some riding and camp out on site the night before.
Don't miss the event of the season!
DIRECTIONS
Wompatuck State Park is located near Hingham on Boston's South Shore.
From the south and Cape Cod: Rte 3 North to Exit 14 and the intersection with Rte. 228. Follow Rte. 228 North approximately 5 miles to Free Street on the right. Turn right onto Free Street one mile to the park entrance on the right. The camping area is 1.5 miles into the park on the right.

FYI.......
Nembafest will be sharing the south field at Wompatuck with the Landmine short track race on Saturday.
Parking may be kinda tight, with the flea market and all the planned Nembafest events going on.
Please follow event 'marshal' parking directions when you get into the field. And watch out for those holes!
Posting says camping the night before, but no information supplied, only camping on Saturday night. Is there camping on Friday night (too)?

If you want the amenities of a regular campground(hot showers, potable water....) you can do that. But it sounds like the camping will be in the event field......with fellow bikenuts and a bonfire? that sounds good to me.....there will be portapotties there, but otherwise, as was said, unsupported. AND a great place to sleep under the stars.............

my Rubel map shows wompatuck having some paved trails. is this the case? i wanted to come check out the event and then take my kid in the trailer on a ride. i need pavement or very very smooth graded dirt for that. no doubletrack or anything.
also, any swimming like the event site on the cape? anything else good for a toddler? boobs?

ummm? what are you talking about? Random boobs available for your toddler? That would be nice, but I don't think the park offers that service.

yes, the roads should be perfect for a trailer. Also, only the main road has cars on it, so that is a plus. There is a nice place to swim, but not on site, it's probably like a 20 minute trail ride from there, and is somewhat hard to find, but I could mark it on a map or something, it's a prime spot on a cool rock.
Also, I was curious if I could help with marking the trail loops. I live close, and ride there all the time, so know most of the trails without a map, especially the right side. Which is my favorite.

oh yeah, two more things.
Can I leave parts in the swap zone while I am riding, then sell when I come back ( like leave a phone number with them maybe?)
and, will there be demo bikes? because I'm looking forward to bringing some of my non-biking friends

If you register for the Bike Swap Zone, you can do whatever you wish. I'd recommend selling for a while and then going for a ride, but if you want to just leave the stuff there (and you're not worried that someone my take any of your stuff), feel free.
To reserve a free Bike Swap space, fill out this form and send it to me.

I'm sure we can use the help--email me and I'll get you on the schedule wherever you want--and while I'm here, anyone else interested in helping, especially with setup early Sat and Sun, leading rides on Sat, parking, you-name-it, we need all the volunteers we can get. By 'we' I mean, the new Friends of Wompatuck AND SEMASS NEMBA, which are providing the joint effort with Kevin at Bike Barn and Paul Peeslee.
The LandMine Classic part of the weekend will benefit FOW. There will also be a food tent both days which will benefit both SEMASS and FOW.
Pre-Registration for the races is easy and fast at

They don't have the fees posted, but if I recall, Nembafest registration is $15 and an additional $15 for overnight camping at the field.
I am going to lead an "unofficial" ride, leaving 10:15 from the parking lot at the ranger station. This will be open to beginner/intermediate to intermediate riders and go 2 1/2 to 3 hours through the very fun north and northeast areas of the park.
Unfortunately, the south field where the Fest is being held is on the opposite side of the compound, from where the north trails are a hefty jaunt to reach.

Anyway, I just wanted to leave on option open for anyone who might want to experience some trails different - and more fun IMO - than the course set for the Sunday race. The difficulty level is probably intermediate, but not very hilly, which makes it a good test for anyone in the beginner/intermediate category who might like a little challenge. There will be roots and rocks, twisty and windy, fast and slow, some boulder face, and a couple of pretty technical sections. A really good cross section of New England cross country.
Feel free to join me. You can register at Nembafest before or after. Just plan on being at the main lot for 10:00. E-mail me if you're interested or if you have questions.

No,
Definately not a sparse crowd. Parking Lot was full to overflowing - trails were teaming with riders, contests had many contestants. Fun was had by hundreds, if you missed it, you missed a great time!
Thanks to PK and all the SENEMBA folks who worked long and hard to make the weekend a wonderful time!

Are there any more pictures of NEMBAFest? I saw a guy taking them all day. Also, does anyone know what the name of the Scott bikes dealer was? They took pictures of me on a Ransom LTD and I want to see them.
