Does anyone have good input on travel insurance that would cover a $3000 bike for an international trip? Most policies have a "per item" limit around $300-$500, no matter what the maximum coverage limit is. Also some policies do not cover "conveyance" items or equipment... That probably includes a road bike i'm sure.....

You may want to check with your homeowner insurance agent (if you have one). Any items you travel with are covered worldwide for theft( minus your deductible) on a standard homeowner policy or renters policy for theft etc. If you rent and do not own a house a rental policy is cheap (under $200 maybe), and gives decent cvg. and I don't think they have a limit on coverage for bikes. Although they would not cover if the bike was lost while being shipped ( you could get that coverage through the post office...)

Check with the airline you are taking. Most times they will allow you to buy additional insurance to cover things such as bikes. I would only do this if your homeowners won't cover it. It can be a bit pricey, but cheaper than loosing your bike.
