I just retuned from a work day at our local Poet's Seat Tower and I thought I would start a thread for reports for all of NEMBA's great work on Earth Day. This will also make it easy for PK to put together a singletrtacks report.
Poet's Seat Park
Greenfield Ma.
Approximately 20 people showed up on a cloudy
day armed with rakes, brooms and shovels.
With the trail in excellent shape after our mild
winter, efforts were concentrated on trash clean
up, raking and general park beautification.
After fueling up on coffee and donuts provided by NEMBA,
volunteers spread out and started to tackle several projects.
The Mayor of Greenfield could be seen toting a trash bag
up and down tower road. The editor of the Greenfield
Recorder hatched plans and volunteered to seek donations
of wood to repair the main entrance sign. NEMBA will install
the new post and caps.
The rain held off to the very last moment and only a few
raindrops fell on volunteers as the trash bags were being
loaded in to a truck for a trip to the landfill. Thanks to all
those who gave up their Saturday morning to make our park
a better place.
Happy trails,

Hey Capt.
I didn't hear about this trail day, did I miss a post about it? I was running errands in Greenfield this morning. Had I known about this I would have stopped by and helped for a bit.
Where else can I find out about these kinds of events (besides this forum)? Hope I catch the next one!

Hey Capt.
I didn't hear about this trail day, did I miss a post about it? . Had I known about this I would have stopped by and helped for a bit.
I don't want to derail my own thread before it even gets started but...
I intentionally kept this year’s involvement (NEMBA's 9th) low key as we had at least three different events going on in the valley. I didn't have any large projects in Greenfield that we would need lots of bodies for. I didn't want to draw volunteers away from some of the bigger projects that were going on like Wendell SF and the East Hampton town park project.
I'll PM you soon with more info.

Capt Shay,
Good work!-we all love the greenfield ridge and you've done a great job year in and out keeping it in fine shape (btw-the Bridges on the green trail have been a wonderful addition-man did I use to hate the buzz kill of that muddy climb on the trail).
Anyway-I'm glad greenfield's man on the scene is keeping an eye on the ridge!
Hey Check out the NEMBA Places to Ride-Bill Boles Put up (via me) a Greenfield Ridge listing-it's under the official name, however-Rocky Mountain Park (how many folks know that?-I know you did, Capt.). There's a new one for Wendell as well.
As for the Wendell event-I just got back, there were quite a few volunteers from various groups-but we had about 10 bikers in all for our project. We made significant headway on a new trail-actually two new trails: a hiking line and a biking line that connects Damon Camp road to the Trail to the lookouts. Tough work, laurel, bogs and bridge work-probably another good day and half of work still to do before it's done. We also had some members help with the leaf/road clean up of the Ruggles pond area. We worked till about 2:30 starting, some of us, at 8:00 and tthen rode for a few hours. Mark Courtemanche, Harold Green, Matt Green, and Jason Duncan really took the lead on this and put in another hard's day's work. Happy Earth day.

Today Merrimack Valley NEMBA had 14 volunteers show up to cut a new trail in the Lowell Dracut Tyngsboro state forest. This trail section is approx. 1/2 mile long, and is the 1st of what will involve 3 trail days for this project. When the project is done, we should have another mile and a half of singletrack out in the Totman Road area.
The new trail we put in today is ridable from end to end. There was a lot of duff to remove and plenty of rock work which took a lot of our time. We expect to be getting back in there over the next few weeks to clean up a few small sections. But what the trail needs now is the pounding of knobbies. We will start phase 2 on the 13th of May. So if you missed out today, we'll get you in the rotation next time.
