I have recently noticed little pink flags on and around some of my local trails. they are tied around trees and attached to stakes in the ground. Most of These trails are within state park boundries. I'm thinking a nearby property owner may just be marking his land. Does anyone know what those things mean, can state parks sell some of their land? ???

Sound like generic surveyor's tape. Could the state be up to something? Doing a study or something? I don't think they can sell off their land at random but I don't know.

Care to share the location?

If there is an active NEMBA trail ambassador or chapter , they might know something.
Might not.

Try contacting the TA for that location if there is one, if you don't feel like sharing the location.

I see lots of tape on the railroad I work for, normally it is guys marking where to walk in for their treestands, or other hunting locations. Just a thought.

I used to use that type of tape before I discovered GPS to explore new to me trail systems. I'd tie the tape onto something at junctions and use it to find my way out. But, I'd remove it on the trip out as well.

I would say it's those trail gnomes. They come out at night and new singletrack magically appears!
