Rode the ice near Spalt's house last year. Some of the most fun I've had on a mountain bike.

When we first got the dog out on the ice she was kinda freaked. I could see her eyeing the shore. After 10 mins or so she got into it and was ripping it up pretty good. Once she figured out that it was ok to slide, she did much better. She was jumping around and pawing at the ice - pretty funny really.

That pic looks awkward, but she didn't fall once the whole time we were out there.

Looks cool, Who took the pic??

And I bet the real challenge is when you put your foot down...

Yeah, not a good idea to put a foot down. The pic was taken by my friend Ty.

Ty Mer... ;D

yeah you don't relize that you have far more traction with your tires than with your feet.

Question for you guys who make your own studded tires:

Ever try screwing them in from the outside? That's how I did it on my moto, with a dab of Superglue to help hold them in. The heads alone seemed to work fine, traction-wise. And there were no sharp points waiting to open you up.

What's the downside with that approach?

You need really short screws or really deep tread in order to not puncture a tube. Otherwise I'd agree with you.

No need to be defensive. I thought she looked like she was handling it well. You know-about to do an arabesque,or some other classic dance move. :)
