I tried them out at the Shawnee snow race last year - work really well. I'd like to pick one up sometime.

For now, we've been riding the 'winterxbike' conversions, where you replace both wheels with skis and a carriage bolt with footpegs replaces the cranks. Pretty damn fun way to get down a hill - we even had then out on some singletrack Wed nite. 8)
We're gonna modify the route of our shuttle run a little bit to take the whole 'no brakes' thing into account so we can still get some use out of it even if while it's buried in snow. I'll get some pics/vid up soon.

Most ski resorts rent ski bikes, next time your at the mountain rent one (usually only a couple of bucks) for the second half of the day. More fun than you might think.

Warning: they are kinda awkward to get on and off the lift with.

Something tells me one of those would work well on groomed or soft snow, but would suck on ice or hardpack, which is exactly what you want if you have to pedal.

A friend of mine made one from an old ski. He said it was great, but took it off right away. Sometimes actions speak louder.

Thanks Rob, I was wondering if it was worth trying to make one, I'll stick to choppers.

But will try to make my own studs.

I was thinking of Using an old Snow board for the front ( or at least part of one )

bigger foor print maybe more leverage , or I May be way off base, I don't know But I think I will have fun trying.

as for studded tires . I have 2 sets one home made ( Well Sort of ) the home made set is an Old set of IRC blizzard studded tire that the 52 studs were pretty worn so I added 110 Sheet Metal screws.

they are the out side set . the inner set are my IRC sno-mads

check out this trail bike for the snow. Available in the junior model too.

I could see this making some very nice singletrack for a multitude of back country trail users. Just dont drive so afst and perhaps tow a compaction wheel

That's more like it. Ought to ride on top of stuff that a bike would sink into. Any idea how the brakes work?
