Gotta be more than that - we'd only gain about 3 minutes of daylight in six months if that was constant.

I thought it was more like 1.5 minutes a day....??

The day length change is minimal at the solstices, and a lot more at the equinoxes. It has to do with orbit and earth tilt.

In my mind, the switch to Daylight Savings Time ought to be the biggest holiday of the year. The Winter Solstice is a close second. WaHOOO!

One thing that is never taken into account. while today might be the shortest day of the year. that day where the sun actually set the earliest was dec 10 where it set at 4:11 Pm , where as today sunset is at 4:17

and if your interested the sun rose today at 7:02 , the latest it will rise will be on Jan 9 at 7:13 am
