A little help please....

I got a call from a woman from CT who has three used bikes she'd like to donate to a worthy cause. The only group I'm currently aware of is www.bikesnotbombs.org in Boston.

Are there other charitable organizations in New England, esp. CT, that can make good with used bikes?

I donated a kid's mountain bike a couple of years ago to "Time For Life"

http://www.timeforlife.org/donate.html

I believe one of our CT NEMBA members is involved with them. PM or e-mail me and I can try to hook them up.

I had a small collection of road and mountain bikes to give away last year. Most of them had been gone thru top to bottom and weren't that bad. I researched and found BNB, also. Local and a good idea. On their website, I believe they will accept bikes when they have room to store them plus a (money) donation for each to help in the program.
I believe they are still looking for a place to re-set up shop since they were being forced to relocate, so storage room status is unknown. I haven't been back to their site, recently. They may have new space now.
My bike collection ended up either being given away to neighborhood kids, single speed conversionists, or recycled at the local recycle center.
Any local ideas (around Boston) would be appreciated.

I also need a good place to send used bikes - every week I go to the landfill and see perfectly good bikes or bikes needing minor repairs thrown in the scrap heap. The lady in charge of recycling there seems willing to work something out once I find a bonified recipient for them.

I bet there are a lot of low income people who work in New York City would probably need a bike now that there's a transit strike......

I have a few bikes, it seems everyone I know who has a bike they didn't use for a while dropped them off at my house after the chopper I built.
I need to get rid of some, so I'll be paying close attention to this thread, I have more than enough choppers (2).

I've been seeing postings on www.craigslist.com (Boston)from people looking for used bikes that need fix up, to be re-used by low income families.
Don't know if this is what you're looking for..........
