Today is the 25th anniversary of the death of John Lennon.
I remember waking up, turning on WBCN and hearing Beatle songs one after another and then Charles Laquidara (sp!) (or was it the other DJ?) saying Lennon was dead.

They were playing loads of Lennon tunes on the radio today; a good day for being on the road.
Something about an anniversary of the day someone dies strikes me as odd, though. Not really a cause for celebration, although I guess a day of remembrance is appropriate.

I was in California at the time , so I herd it about 9 pm PST that night, from Howard Cosell. ( sp? ) on MNF .
I forget whch Comidian said it , but said as a Joke, 2 feet to the left and the guy would have been a hero.. Its sick , but it does make you think

Did Lennon ride a Mountian bike?
Did he sing about Mountian biking?
Is there some big track of land donated to MTB by his estate?
Better i think to celabrate someone who is more involved in the subject of the site and perhaps still alive. Someone who gives time to help and maybe teach and post interesting details about his life and rides.
Someone perhaps who has to suffer the sharing of his birthday with Lennon Lennon Lennon all darn day and no mention of the Imaculate Conception that happensd on this day thousands of years earlier.

I also remember hearing it on Monday Night Football by Howard Cosell. The Patriots were playing the Miami Dolphins. It was almost the end of the game. John Smith was getting ready to kick a game winning field goal for the Patriots. We had this huge monkey on our backs because we never win down there. I was on the edge of my seat. Then Howard broke in with the news. A time out was called and we went to a commercial. Miami was trying to ice the kicker. But bad karma was already filling the air waves. I didn't feel good about the Patriots chances all of a sudden. The kick was up. Up. Up. NO GOOD. Miami wins. That was a bad night all around.

I always get a laugh when it is someones birthday and they are dead. Every year on Elvis' birthday they mention it and say "he would have been 85 today..." How long do they do that? When they would be 100?..120?...150?

Yea but you wont be laughing when it is you will ya? ;D ;)
Yeah it is goofy to continue counting birthdays of the deceased. I think this is done usually in referral to those who died prematurely.
I remember his death hitting me as hard as if a personnel friend had been taken. I was in shock afterwards. I agree with those who choose not to mention the killer by name.
Oh and of course Happy Birthday to our friend Bill! who is currently still with us!
