View Full Version : Yo... I be rantin'

Something I just need to get off of my chest.
These "yutes" today with their half crooked wearing, straight bill style of baseball caps. I really, really don't like it. No, that's actually putting it lightly. To borrow some ebonics, it make me be hatin'. I see these kids with their gangsta dress, with their super baggy clothes (all the better to hide the gun, my dear), pants half down their asses, boxer prominently displayed. Sometimes I even see young caucasions in the gym wearing their fitness attire in this fashion. I just don't get it!
All of this now includes the crooked hat, which, somehow, is just too much for me to take. It almost gives me conniptions with thoughts of violence.
What is it about today's youths that make them want to look like inner city gang members? Can someone testify?
People, if you have kids that wear their hats this way, help them before it's too late... before the clothes get baggy, before the bling and the ear rings and the tattoos and the blaring, ear shattering bass in the car drivin', before the guns and before the crack selling. It all starts with the hat.

It's still preferable to seeing a man in public wearing spandex and Primal Wear jersey as far as I'm concerned... ;D

Hmmm... I don't know. Some of those jerseys look pretty gay. More so, five guys riding together all sporting the same color jersey... extremely gay. If I had to side with either a gang of crooked hat and baggy clothes wearing punks or a gang of lycra short and loud jersey wearing cyclers... sorry, I got to go with the punks... but only to protect my manhood, you understand.

I think my poor command of the language got in my way there a little bit - I'd side with the urban punk wannabees too (stylewise, anyway). I'll also still take droopy pants and a sideways hat over tan Dockers and loafers 9 out of 10 times too...

You may have noticed that as male clothing styles have gotten bigger and baggier, female clothing styles have gotten smaller and tighter.
Things are very silly now'er days: scrawny guys wearing tee shirts that hang down to their knees over baggy shorts that are 3 inches above their ankles (and crooked hats) and rubenesque girls in the skin tight low rider jeans – roll of fat – skin tight top look.
By cracky, I remember back in the day when the men were in the hip hugger skin tight jeans and the women wore the flowing hippy dresses. ahh, the good old days. ;)

I never liked the low rider jeans when they first came out and nothings changed my mind this time around. (I hear there already on there way out). There's nothing flattering about them. Take it from a guy who's looking. And another fashion faux paux is the low rider sweat pants with the writing across the ass. Nobody should be wearing this. If your ass looks good we'll notice. You don't need to turn it into a madison ave advertising campaign.

I can put up with the lowrider pants, but some of those people should look in the damn mirror. Nothing like some obese girl with her belly hanging out. Yech.
The gangsta look is beyond my comprehension, I guess I'm just too old and straight (I hate Rap also). I see those guys with the crooked hat and laugh - don't they realize how stupid they look? But I try not to let them see me laugh so I won't get gunned down....

Someone up at the MTB weekend in North Conway told that's called a "muffin top" ;D

Myself I have two young boys the rule around the house is, I see underwear it's wedgie time the same goes for all their friends. Took a little while but the message has sunk in. Please don't get me started on fat chicks wearing inappropiate clothing!

I just don't understand kids these days...
Many good points have been brought up already, but I feel I need to write as well- to get it off my chest and whatnot... after all, this is the rant section.
Crooked hat wearin' gangsta kids- The lankier the kid, the baggier his shirt, the more boxers, the lower the jeans... Sure I'll point and laugh, he's not toting a gun where I come from. Not only that, he's also 14 years old and got dropped off at the mall by his parents to begin with. The only thing he's threatening is the eyesight of the tasteful bystander. These kids need to take a look at themselves. As a 19 year old sophmore in college I can proudly say that NEVER have I felt the urge to dress this way as I progressed through my teenaged years. Not once did I even look at people who dressed this way as 'cool', whether they lived the lifestyle or not. I grew up in cords and a hoodie, and my shirts fit me. Heck, I actually wore a belt the way it was meant to be worn *gasp* to hold up my pants.
I just don't get it... and that makes me feel bit old... but seeing the youth of today I am fine with that.
As far as the female attire goes, well I don't know much. My experience says that tighter is not always better. College makes one wise in this way. Like mentioned before- if a girl has a good body, we'll notice it regardless. And also as stated before, sometimes girls showing skin probably shouldn't be, for various reasons (the whole muffin analogy). There is influence from pop culture and the media and we've all heard that by now. Sure lots of tween girls wanna look like whatever overhyped pop musician is popular the time I am writing this. All I can say is buy clothes you like and clothes that are comfortable, and tighter and smaller is not always a good thing. Shirts are shirts, and jeans, well, they're meant to stay on the outside...
Common sense is what this really is...
Now to funnel this energy into my paper.

Not sure why, but for some reason, this thread conjures an image from the movie Office Space. In the opening gridlock scene, the nerdy white guy with glasses is blaring his gangsta rap and hip hopping along to the words... until the black homeless guy rambles over to wash his windshield, and our not-so-brave hero lowers the volume and ups his window, mortally afraid of the presence of Mr. Black Man. He is then emboldened to continue his enjoyment upon the guy's exit from the proximity. One of the funniest movie sequences ever.

I don't know why but that crooked hat thing really irks me. Not sideways, even though I don't much care for that either but the 45 degree to the side thing really pushes my buttons. Forget rantin', I be slappin' if my kids try that crap.
I have two little boys and I sometimes wonder; WTF will the whacky trends be when they are teenagers?

My daughter is 12, my son is 14, so I'm right in the thick of this thing (or just starting). On the one hand I hate seeing my daughter go out of the house with jeans which barely cover her ass crack, on the other, there aren't any other kind of jeans made for a size 0. She's too big for the "girls" stuff so she has to buy women's. Even if there were the "right" clothes to buy, the peer pressure is daunting, yeah she's a strong willed girl, but there's a point where everyone wants to fit in to a degree. I just hope we can keep it under control through her teenage years when she starts to get curvy... ugh.
My son, thankfully, has not gone the way of the gangsta. He wears relatively baggy jeans, but you can't see his underwear. He's rail thin so, once again, finding jeans that fit him is a challenge. He just recently donated all his caps to the Salvation Army, so I guess I don't have to worry about the sideways cap thing.

I love this, I guess I am not the only old fashoned minded person in the room, though I'm not sure how many of you get to spend all day everyday observing the goofy way that the people dress as I do but I assuer you that you are all correct, but it does bring alot of humor into my day and I have come to the conclusion that they all got dressed in the dark and think they look "phat". At first I thought it was self expression then it dawned on me that it is the expression of youth proveing once and for all that they truly need guidence at least when getting dressed. As for the tight clothing well let me just say there are some clothes that some people should never wear in public or privet for that matter.
By the way just incase you were wondering most of the kids dressing that way are not toating firearms and alot of them aginst outward apperance are actually very nice kids, not that I want to see my son dressing like that, but then again he likes to mountain bike and the baggies get caught in his chain, Fashion by mechanics!! ;D
