Wachusett just started blowing snow yesterday, and they're optimistic enough to post a possible Sunday, 11/20 opening on their site. Last year that meant a very thin Conifer and Challenger, top to bottom. The weather forecast for Sunday is also sunny with a high of 51 in Leominster.
To celebrate the schizophrenia of the moment, I'm looking at a smorgasboard for Sunday, sort of an absolute reverse of how I began last spring, when a friend and I hiked up to the summit, skied Conifer on light XC gear in 55 degree weather, and then I did a 4 hour ride in Leominster while he rock climbed at Crow Hill. Conditions allowing, I'm hoping to hike up Wachusett early Sunday with my rock skis for some turns, followed immediatly after by a mountain bike ride -- either to the summit, or over in Leominster, or both. I'll be on beater tele gear I don't care about. Tele or alpine, or Flexible Flyer, comparable apathy for gear damage is greatly encouraged. Any interest?!?
