Anyone up for a night ride in the Fells?
Moderate pace, 1 1/2 hrs.

Being that the Fells is closed at night and any night ride there would be an illegal trespass.
NO
I speak only for myself of course. If anyone else wants to go and jepordize the use of the park by all the other law abiding riders and undermine the years of slow building good will by NEMBA , please feel free.

How about Whip Hill and Virginia Woods are they still considered part of the Fells?

This sounds like some "joker" trying to bait and trap. I'd suggest ignoring this post and the user all together.
Oh and yes, the Fells is closed after sunset and before sunrise and will also be closed for the winter starting in January and lasting until April.
That nightime ban applies to ALL USERS by the way, including not only renegade cyclists but hardy-partying teens, folks looking for a little love as well as crunchy, smelly hiker types from to FotF, especially those that live in Winchester and like to stir up stuff ;D

Given the number of people of this forum and newbies getting into the sport you guys shouldn't be so harsh in your replies.
You should not assume that everyone knows all of the rules and that the Fells is closed at night. There is more of a chance that this person is just a newbie and not a "joker". Just help to educate your fellow riders.

I did just happen to notice that DW just signed up on the bikerag.com forum and posted the same exact topic. Very suspicious considering bikerag is a CT based forum.

I am not trolling, but your cartoons and catchy internet forum lingo is very cute. (insert smiley face to show my emotion).
I am new to the area and have just recently discovered this web site and since I saw some night rides posted for other areas I posted one for a park that was close to my house.
Maybe you could be helpful and suggest locations that are legal for night riding or is this a very sensitive subject?

I'm glad you liked my boat picture :)
The fells is a sensitive place, to keep in the good graces of the property managers and the local friends groups we all need to heed the rules (stay on the mt bike loop & dont ride after dark). I'm not local to your area so I dont really know the places where it is legal to night ride. I'm pretty sure all state parks prohibit night riding. Perhaps someone else can make a suggestion or 2.

yep - this is a bad news only situation. technically, all state parks and every city park i can think of is closed at sunset or within 1 hour of sunset.
the sensitivity of this forum and others, comes from the fact that they are monitored occasionally by local land managers, enforcement authorities and busybodies who would like the excuse to eliminate mountain bikers from certain properties. so that is why your post was harshed.
if you want to ride after work, now that it is dark at 5pm because of daylight savings time. there are no official exceptions, BUT, a couple of the parks have local land managers that look the other way as long as there is no vandalism, partying or accidents. to find these situations, you will need to hook up with local riders during the daylight and be invited.
