Looks like I have a tower to climb in Leominster next week. Looking for info to get in a ride at the SF while I'm there.

Some sketchy info at MTBR here: http://trails.mtbr.com/cat/united-states-trails/trails-massachusetts/trail/PRD_168396_4554crx.aspx

Also found the Bikerag and Team Bums maps - they look very promising.

Suggestions?

There were Monday and Wednesday night group rides there during the summer, not sure if they do them now with lights. I have only ridden there once, and can't suggest a route, but it was pretty good. Lots of baby heads and roots, not so many big rocks to play on. From what I remember, the "official" map, like most state maps, doesn't show half of the trails. You should enjoy it, but it won't be nearly the climbing you are used to at home. There are several people on the board that ride there regularly. Hopefully the will chime in. I think Tele-Mark is one of them. Maybe send him a PM?

If I don't get stuck here in friggin Man-Ass-Ass VA again next week, I should be doing some riding Wed night in the Leo area with Tele-Mark and a few others if you're interested. You can always hit the Midstate too - it's pretty easy to follow. When will you be down?

Sorry, been on the road. I'm not sure of my schedule at this point. I'll probably be done by mid-afternoon, so I'd be looking to be finished riding before dark, get home to the kids, etc.

Do you have a piece of the mid-state that you recommend?

Sounds aweseome. Looks like I'll be down there again next week, but I'll be too damn busy w/ work to get down for a ride. :( Should be a regular trip for awhile though; I'll try to work in an extra day or two sometime this fall if I can get way with it.
Radair - you could get a decent ride in from the Wachusett Village Inn parking lot heading north...I'll shoot you some more details. I'm wondering if Tele-Mark has a decent GPS route mapped out for Leo that he could hook you up with too; tough to give you good directions for a loop there - maybe I can find a map to mark up. I'll see what I can do this w/e.

I found this one on Bikerag.com:

If you can tell me which area on this map is preferred, where to park, etc. I would be happy to get lost there.

Radair, I prefer to park on the Elm St. end of Parmenter Road. Unlike the previous poster, I'm pretty happy with the state map: http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/trails/Leominster.gif.

The trick about Leominster is to get off the fire roads - babyhead central. The singletrack is nicely done.

Radair -- when are you planning to ride? If you have a GPA, I could send you some track logs to make getting around easier. Also, I tend to get out of work early, so I might be able to give you a mini-tour. I'd kind of like to know more about this climbing and getting paid for it thing, anyways....

Hi Mark - It's looking like Wednesday, 11/2. I have two towers to climb but hope to be done by ~2:00. I'd love to ride and get done around dark so I can get home at a reasonable hour. I do have a GPS but have never tried to follow an existing track log.

It would be great to hook up with you if it works out.

Radair -- I'm really sorry I missed this message before the forum went down. Hope you got to ride a little in Leominster that day, I played hooky and was there the day before, and conditions were excellent. Hopefully you can get out again sometime. Great rock climbing across the street at Crow Hill as well.

Yes, too bad. Pete & Z came out and gave me a grand tour; it was really excellent. Superb place, very fun. Would have liked to have met some of your crew, but I'm sure it will happen one of these days.

Pete mentioned that Crow Hill was right across the street. I never realized that's where it was! Legendary.

Yep! Legendary is the word. Believe it or not, Steve Arsenault is a regular over there ( :o :o). It's amazing to see a now gray man, known for aid climbing, doing the hardest free routes like they were 5.3's.

Steve is a super nice guy and an amazingly talented craftsman. Ask him about his Wolfeboro timber frame and he'll probably pull out some photos. Some of his metalwork is beyond belief also.

OK, that does it. Next spring we do a ride/climb day. You in?

I have to ride by LSF on Tuesday to pick up my son at Keene state college. Armed with the 2 maps below, can I go solo without knowing the goods? Can someone suggest a start to a loop or out and back that may involve up to 2 hours? Can someone name or direct me to must ride trails? All suggestions are appreciated. Is this area "Fine for Hunting"?

I just rode this for the first time a few weeks ago and did it solo, then again with a friend. Most of the trails near the parking at rt 30/rocky pond road come out to main fire roads so it is easy to get back. We took a right off of rocky pond and hit quite a few trails along the road and water over that way. Then looped back to rocky pond road. Then for a longer ride continue out on that road and take a left around Rocky pond. Down a few hundred yards on the right is a trail which is a good loop. If you get back to the parking lot a little too early there are some trails right off the lot to the east (towards rt 2) that are good and can soak up 15 to 20 minutes.
I liked the trails a lot and look forward to going back soon.

Have a great ride!!
