Wompatuck Trail Day Cancelled/Rescheduled

The Wompatuck Trail Maintenance Day for Sunday, October 30 has been cancelled.
A replacement trail day has been scheduled for Sunday, November 6th. Meet at the Wompatuck Visitor Center at 8:30am. Bring work boots, gloves, safety glasses, etc.
The group has been requested. by the park supervisor. to re-open a very badly overgrown section of trail at the back of Prospect Hill, and up the hill. This trail is used for emergency vehicles/personel that have to access that part of the park.
At a meeting with the Friends of Wompatuck tonite, we will discuss the work and what is needed.
More details will be posted when they are finalized.

At the Friends of Wompatuck meeting last night, it looks like we got more work than we thought for Nov. 6th.
The overgrown trail is about 1 mile long (or so). It is about 3 feet wide singletrack in areas, some less, some more. It needs to be trimmed out to 8 to 10 feet wide, as it is also a fire road and no work has been done on it in years.
Several members reported that a couple of bridges have holes or missing planks in them.
In addition, a metal drainage pipe that crosses an existing heavily used trail has rusted out, opening a hole with sharp edges.
Depending on the number of people showing up, we could tackle all three projects and be in good shape. Or, we could start and NOT FINISH the trail re-opening, our primary objective.
