Take a Kid Mountain Biking at Great Brook State Park this Oct. 1st, 2005 (Saturday).
http://www.gbnemba.org/kidsday/
We really need your help!
What a setting for our event! There will be many
local and some regional vendors at the venue, all in
support of getting youths into a healthy alternative
sport. Some vendors include local bicycle shops and
sport/energy food/drink manufacturers, while others
are regional or national outdoors sports chains such
as EMS and REI. It's going to be a ton'o'fun: it's
geared toward kids, as a way of promoting a healthy
alternative sport and, hopefully prevent childhood
obesity, and will feature active skills and trail
knowledge/etiquette activities for the kids to perform
for schwag points. The event is part of a nationally promoted IMBA
initiative:

Here's the rub: like I said above, we need your HELP.
Please!
We need a wide range of volunteers, everything from
help setting up, to leading rides, registration, etc.
If you have time constraints that don't fit with the
job you're interested in, e-mail me and we'll figure
something out. Please check out the list below and
consider signing up for one of them. We are
particularly in need of skills coaches, ride leaders
and sweepers. If you would like to help, please email
Tim Post at te.post@gmail.com.
Please pencil us in your calendar or enter the event
in your computer or palm pilot now.
Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you
all.

Joblist:
Set-Up - On Saturday, October 2nd we will need help in
the expo area. Projects include roping off area,
setting up tents, assisting vendor's set-up etc. Time
needed 7:30am - 9am.
Registration - Often the first impression of any
event is the registration desk. The more folks we
have helping sign people in, the shorter the lines for
all. Looking for people to work various shifts
between 9am and 3pm.
Parking - We have various parking areas for this
event, but will need people to coordinate it for the
first half of the day. 8am to noon.
Skill coaches - we will have various skill stations
for the kids to complete around the course. we need
1-2 people at each station to give a small amount of
instruction, lend a hand, spot the rider and check off
the skill on their checklist. This is the most
important job of the event. It involves some small
preparation, setting up before the event and keeping
the skill station staffed for the entire event . 8am -
2pm (course closes at 2). Older brothers and sisters
as well as adults are encouraged to volunteer for this
job.
Ride Leaders - While there will be self-guided loops
for all abilities, there are some riders out there
that prefer group rides. We need ride leaders and
sweepers. We want to have led rides by kids as well
as adults. Knowledge of the park is helpful but
since you will be leading rides around the marked
course, not necessary. Time commitment -
approximately 1 hour per ride, starting times TBD but
approximate start times between 9:30am and 1pm.
Trail Marshals - This job is for people who can't stop
moving! Trail marshals will continually circle the
course and provide assistance to riders while keeping
everyone on course and moving along. TM's will be
responsible for the general safety of the riders and
direct emergency personnel and MTB Patrollers to
problem, if need be.
Sweeps - will need 1-2 sweepers to close the course
and remove arrows at 2:30 should take no more than 1
hour.
Clean up / tear down crew - this group will make sure
the expo area and course are put back the same way we
found them - leave no trace!
