Next to last trail maintenance day at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham, Mass. will be on October 9, 2005, at 8:30am.
If you rode the Wompatuck trails this past weekend at the Fun Run, you saw first hand that most all of the trails need work, especially cutting back the overgrowth. In addition, several wooden bridges will need repairs either this year or in 2006. One large bridge (in excess of 200 foot) will need to be built when matching funds are received, over an existing wet area.
There have been some large limbs and trees blown down very recently, that will be dealt with by the local park crew. The rest of the work is up to the 'trail users'.
Help maintain the trails or loose them (to mother nature).

Tools?
Favorite hand tools, ie loppers, pruners. Any other implements will be from the NEMBA tool trailer. Bring gloves, work shoes/boots, safety glasses and bug spray. Bring the bike too for a ride after lunch, with SteveC and company.

Actually dont know whether I'll be riding after.....but may bring my bike, depending on the type of work Steve the Ranger and Paul Peaslee have for us.
Either way, usually the trailer has all the tools(besides personal hand loppers) we need......

Well, since you asked SC (and others), it rained on the Wompatuck 'parade' again. Even the bugs stayed home.
The 'Old Coot', Paul and I watched the resident squirrel in the Visitor Center for about half an hour, then we left. We had a couple of people show up, but Paul had planned some chainsaw work on a fire road that had become blocked, per Ranger Steve's request.
For the safety of all the workers, plus we didn't want to get wet (ahem), the day was cancelled.
ALSO, there was talk about cancelling the October 30th work day so all could go to the NEMBA ride that is scheduled for then.
Watch this forum for an announcement of the next work day, sometime in November, before the ground freezes and we have a foot of snow.
Soooo......thanks to those that did brave the elements and did show up, ready to trim.
