Yep I am happy - it was an amazing weekend, and yep Laura is beautiful and one tough customer too! She took a hard fall about 15 minutes into our ride on Saturday and she took some time to compose herself, got up, dusted off and rode for about 3 more hours after that! 8) :)

Speaking of women riding. When we got to the bottom of the "slick rock" section at Case (BTW - real men ride up the slick rock), there was a group of five riders coming down. I pulled off to let them pass - not because I needed to catch my breath, no, I was being noble ::)

For those who have not ridden at Case, the slick rock section is about a quarter mile of steep rock, with all kinds of ridges, roots and some loose stuff over it. Its definitely not a beginner's section, up or down.

The group coming down had two older guys (50+) on FS bikes - both of whom didn't make the roll down, two older women (50+) on FS bike who rode the whole thing, and a guy on a 1994 era, rigid Cannondale - he also rolled the whole thing.

It was inspiring to see those women and the guy on the rigid bike, and somewhat humorous to see the guys on FS dab and walk.

Splat --

I was up there too with a couple of friends. It was so much fun we're heading back next month. Loved your pics -- a lot of it looked familiar. We were so wrapped up in riding we didn't take too many. Maybe next time. It was a blast.

By the way, anyone who likes a good helping of comfort food after riding should hit the Miss Lyndonville on Route 5.

That Slick Rock section is painful. I've only tried to go up it, never down it. What loop takes you to where you would descend that stuff?

I've been riding Case for over 15 years and the only time I've ridden down it was after I just rode up it - i.e. going back down to rescue or find another rider. I guess if you did our 'normal' loop backwards you'd come down the slickrock. I often see people riding down it, so I know people do it (just not real men). ;D Considering the rest of the flow, I think going up it is much better. Certainly I'd rather be riding down the singletrack towards Buckingham Res, or down the Fern trail.

I use that section of slickrock to guage my fitness level. In the spring I'm lucky to make it half way up. Yesterday I did all three sections of it with no dabs and even rode back down and did the top of the first section a second time.
