The town I live in (Newbury MA) is closing all playing fields and the regional high school has halted their athletic program until the area is sprayed. The danger seems real enough that local boards of health feel some action is needed. I wonder what additional measures should we be taking when heading into the woods.

Mosquitoes I assume. There have been a number of dead birds found in the area infected with EEE.

The mosquito control people also found a mosquito carrying EEE in Amesbury in the woods near the South Hampton, NH line. It was off of South Hampton Road. So far I haven't heard of any areas here being restricted yet.

I just heard on the news this weekend that a 20-year old girl died from EEE in Newton, NH. I think I'll be using deet on my evening road rides as they've now located the virus in a couple of places along my route.

My sister graduated HS with that girl.

Sad, crazy stuff, said she went to the hospital on Thurs., they didn't know what she had, flu like symptoms, she passed away on Saturday, and got the test results from it later Sat. night.
