Hey ktmsx- welcome to the forum! If your looking for rides, folks post a bunch here regulalry. You'll see many that don't like the motorized users specifically you'll see a big rage against the ATV'ers here, but dont worry, were a good sized bunch here, and in an amongst us, I know of many folks here who started or even still ride dirtbikes.

Get a Santa Cruz, even though you didn't ask what bike to buy.

Just like owning a KTM, Santa Cruz is just the best !

Best bike, c'mon that's an easy question.... The best bike to buy is the one that has all the features you "need", with the most features you want with acceptable [to you] quality at a price within your budget.

The worst bike to buy is any one from a deptartment store, retail chain, toy store, or other similar places regardless of features and price point.

Nice... I (fully) made the switch this year after getting hurt racing hare-scrambles last year. I needed to calm down a bit.

I was in decent shape from racing the dirtbike... but I actually lost 15lbs when I started pedaling everywhere. (and I didn't start off paticularily overweight either, 5'11" / 190lbs). I honestly didn't think there would be that much of a difference between the sports. I was wrong... I'm completely hooked on the mountain bike thing again.

I used to ride XC back in the late 90's... but I HATED clipless pedals for the technical stuff I rode and generally didn't have as much fun doing that than I did on the dirtbike. I had no idea about DH. I don't recall ever hearing about platform pedals on anything but Walmart bikes. -- Earlier this year I picked up a 6" (front) 5" (rear) Freeride bike that TOTALLY takes the place of the kicks I got on the dirtbike. I highly recommend looking into something like that - it won't take long before you feel right at home. Totally different ride than my XC bike.

Yeah, there is some anti ATV stuff on the site... I take some of it to heart. For the most part everyone is cool about dirtbikes -- they know a fair amount of the old singletrack out there was cut by them back in the day.

glad to see the positive attitudes....I live in North East CT. Once I get my new bike I will be doing alot of exploring at Pachaug and probably Biegelow Hollow {sp}. I ride and race in the woods I was never much into motocross there is nothing better than a nice single track......A couple friends used to do the DH, but for me I want a workout not just speed and thrills thats what Sundays are for.....

Thompson or Putnam CT? I'm over the MA line in Douglas. There is a ridiculous amount of trails up this way. I'll have to look up those places, I'm always looking for something new.

Ellington...more like North Central I guess....Pretty close to Soapstone mountain.. there is enough miles in there to ride a diff. trail everyday for a summer...or two.... Bigelow hollow is in Union I used to hike out there alot I think it is legal for mtb's I am gonna check...probably close to you....Pachaug is in southeast CT and is legal for dirt bikes so to me it is a NICE place....

A friend of mine has a Santa Cruz - blur for sale. He doesn't ride it - too busy racing pit bikes. I'm sure you know what those are....

The bike's in nice shape - about an 18". I think he wants about $1,800 for it. Let me know if you're interested.

I'm in Tolland, when you get up and running let me know. I'd usually say I can show you some nice rides - but it seems like you know a lot of them already.

I do know the trails at Bigelow - some are kinda lame, some are very technical, all have great scenery.
