MASSBIKE OFFERING FIRST-EVER BICYCLING SKILLS CLASS IN NEWBURYPORT
Boston, MA: The Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition (MassBike), the statewide bicycling advocacy and education group, has scheduled a Bicycling Skills class in Newburyport. The class, known as "Bicycling 101," is for adults who want to increase the efficiency and safety of their bicycling.
"This class is timely in light of recent discussions in Newburyport regarding bicycle safety," stated MassBike Executive Director Dorie Clark. "We are dedicated to improving the relationship between motorists and cyclists by teaching and emphasizing the importance of sharing the road safely."
Pierre Avignon, a League Cycling Instructor who has been certified by the League of American Bicyclists to teach bike safety, will lead the classes. Attendees will learn important fundamentals of bicycling skills such as how to increase pedaling efficiency, shift gears, ride on hills, and follow safety rules for roadways. The classes will be held at Hope Community Church, located at 11 Hale Street, Newburyport.
The scheduled dates for the classes are Wednesday, August 3 and Saturday, August 6:
· Thursday, August 4. This is an interactive workshop and bicycles are not needed. It is a pre-requisite for Saturday's course and is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to bikeinfo@massbike.org <http://us.f601.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=bikeinfo@massbike.org> if you plan to attend.
· Saturday, August 6. This is an all day, on-bike program. Attendees pay a fee of $40 for MassBike members and $50 for non-members.

MassBike has been serving the communities of Massachusetts for 28 years. The organization has 1400 dues paying members. Its accomplishments include expanded access for cyclists on the MBTA and development of a curriculum to train police officers in the rules of the road as they apply to cyclists.
