Whacky. I wonder how well it works? I can understand an internally geared hub to eliminate the rear mech but shaft drive? I'm skeptical.

It isn't hard to make a shaft drive, but they lose a lot of energy to friction. There's nothing as efficient as a chain, at least so far. Maybe someday some kind of electro-viscous something or other may arrive, but we're in for many years of grease, chain tools, and other drivetrain hassles, I'm afraid.

Plus, I'd bet I could break that thing within a mile of hard climbing.

Who knew...my ideal bike is essentially a trek Y Frame with a shaft drive. I'd never have thunk it!!! ;D

Those bikes look....almost naked:

I wouldn't be an early adapter, but it's intriguing.

Hey - they have a mountain bike - 5 year warranty on frame, 2 years on the drive train.

I still wouldn't take Slider's bet...

Well, you know it's a top of the line free ride bike when it comes with reflectors and kickstand.

According to the CPSC, ALL bicycles are to be sold with reflectors. Even the $5000 racing machine that you buy through the LBS comes with reflectors. Granted, most of us pull them off as soon as we get the bike home.

Those bikes are loaded!

Alloy handlebar.
Alloy seatpost.
Alloy stem.
Alloy pedals.

Alloy must be an up and coming high end component manufacturer. They are new to me.
