I hit the Kingdom Trails again today. Another incredible morning of riding. We started off by climbing up Darling Hill. 1.4 of the way up the hill, I popped a spoke on my front wheel. I had to disengage the brake so that it would not rub on the rim, and continue the ride with only the back brake on my single speed (BMX style). I am a 90% front braker type rider, so it took some adjustment, and two blown downhill corners, to get used to riding with a rear brake only. I like my front brake, but I did not let the loss of my brake get in the way of a great ride.
We did the Darling hill side and hit a couple of new (to me) trails, including old webs, heavens bench (great view), hog's somethingorother to get up from west branch.
I really liked old webs, I took the right branch, the other guys I was riding with took the left branch and we raced to the bottom. The right branch was a nice flowing pine stand trail. I guess the left branch had some jumps on it. Next time I am racing the left branch and they are racing the right.
Awesome ride, awesome trails, singlespeeds rule.
Cheers

We had a great time. I think I would have been a bit faster with a front brake, but it was an entertaining ride. If you are interested, we are heading up there again in two weeks (on tuesday again).
This past Tuesday there were a lot of bikes there for a midweek ride. It was my first time seeing a Karate Monkey, A GF Rig, and another guy with Mary bars on the trail. When we were done with the ride, we could not stop talking about how nice it is to be in a place where bikes are the "norm".
Later AOF,

P.S. Cute kids.

Old webs was my favorite trail up there. If it wasn't such a frikkin sauna that day, I would have climbed and ridden it a bunch of times! Talk about fun on the SS!!!! I took the left branch - didn't even see the left branch. The jumps were a ton o' fun to be sure. I could have easily spent an hour just riding that one trail....that's the stuff dreams are made of.

I am going to try to take the left branch of old webs tomorrow (9:00 ride if anyone can get away).
The right was really smooth, and had flow like webs, but with a bit more length, so I may have to climb back around and do the right branch after the left, we'll see.
Next time we head up there will probably be on August 9th, but our plans are not usually solidified until the weekend before.
Happy riding,
SSnoob
