Hey Roadies,

I got a road bike (long time mtbiker) about a month ago-risdden the heck out of it--really like it. I'm looking to upgrade the wheels--Anyone got any thoughts on Velomax Wheels (Now Easton wheels actually..but same factory et al.)? I like the look and promo of the Orion II's but I could also break the bank and try their carbon Tempest wheels too. Everyone seems to have those Mavic Ksyriums--I know they're great but I'm looking to have something slightly different (but not exotic).

Thanks!
Liam

Try the Velomax Circuits. At 1650g per pair and under $450, you can't go wrong. I have a pair and raced a ton of crits and road races on them. Never broke a spoke and they always stay true. Best bang for the buck IMO and best road wheels I ever had. The reviews at roadbikereview.com rave about them too. Have spinergy Xaeros and Bontrager race lites and the circuits seem to out accelarate them both.

Don't get caught up in what everyone else is riding. Buy wheels that last and are a good value.

I've been thinking about new wheels myself. You might consider having wheels built for you rather than buying pre-built. I've seen numerous positive comments online about wheels built by Mike at http://www.oddsandendos.com, but I'm sure you can find a competent wheelbuilder local to you. I'm currently riding Mavic Open Pro rims with Dura-Ace hubs and DT double-butted spokes (which I got for about $200 pre-built from Performance during a sale and a 20% off coupon), so I've been on the fence about whether new wheels will make much difference over what I have. I put in a lot of miles, but I don't race.
