I've had this bike since I found it with a big sign on it that read "FREE!" back in '99 on the East Bay bike path. I finally got around to finishing it up ::). In '99 I overhauled everything but the front hub (a rusty mess) and promptly stuck it in the basement when we took over the top two floors of the house we live in. I was cooked from road riding on Thursday and Friday so today was maintenance day. When I ran out of other bike stuff to do I grabbed the Raleigh, overhauled the front hub and now I have a SS grocery getter. It has a Sturmey Archer 3spd hub (with an old school grip shift type shifter) that is stuck in one (big) gear. I rode it up some hills and it didn't feel much different than a 32x16, just a lot heavier than my other bikes. I'm still a little amazed the tires are holding air. I've been using my Poprad for errands and always wonder if it'll be there when I return. No worries now, if they want to cut the lock and bolt more power to 'em.

Nice bling-bling paint, looks like a great bar hopper!

It is kind of blingy, huh? Now all I need are some new chrome rims and I'll be pimpin'. ;D

It's really all scratched up, and a little rusty, but it looks good from afar.

That's sweet! Did you try filling the hub with WD 40 or PB? That might free it up. Then you could drain it and refill it with oil... but then it wouldn't be a SS...never mind!
