I'm there! Gnu I rode 32:18 there last time. No problems! Remember, your gear is only too big if you think it is!

i think ill run a 32:19 with clipless pedals. i did pretty well with a 32:19 at lynn woods with flat pedals so i think ill be pretty good for fomba.

I've always run a 32:18 and had good luck with that ratio everywhere.
FOMBA is relatively flat, twisty singletrack with typical roots and rocks. There are no real large rock formations to speak of.
I would suggest clipless pedals.

I might try to get up there, depends on what Stacy has planned for the 4th. It's early enough where traffic shouldn't be an issue (going up that way, going home might be an issue). After looking at the directions it looks like it's real close to Fort Rock right ? So like 1 1/2 hours from Providence ?

It's about 25 minutes from Exeter, only a couple minutes from I-93

You could probably make it in an 1.5 hrs in the AM if you take I-95 to I-93. Yahoo maps shows to take I-495, but it would depend on traffic.
Hopefully you can make it.

You would want to head up 93, instead of 95 to get to the Rock.

Probably at the Woburn interchange of 95/93.

Should be the same drive time if not shorter.

Anyone have an extra SS I can try... haha... I would probably walk the whole time if it was my first SS ride. Sounds like fun though.

I just got clearance from S.W.M.B.O.'d for a Monday SS ride. Lucky for me, the ss is the only bike that actually works at this point in time...

bdee, I PM'd you: give me a call.

That was me. I'm really happy with it so far. The rigid fork that comes with the frame is pretty sweet, too. It's not the lightest bike in the world (especially for a SS), but it just rides nice. It's not really set up to be perfect at anything in particular, just good all around. The new ones are set up to handle up to a 125 mm fork (mine's a stretch with the 100 mm fork) and it has sliding disc tabs in the back (mine does not). Wheel Power in Exeter, NH is where you want to go to get one....

Thanks, I like the picture of you going down the log roll.
I'd say we rode about 15 miles.

Ok... so is the guy in the yellow/green shirt actually climbing the Red Pine roller with an SS? Or did he go down backwards...

ArmOnFire
July 6th, 2005, 07:20 AM
He went up it on a SS.

Great ride guys, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I think we are on to something here, who can ride on July 18th? Maybe a Mass. venue this time.
I vote for Great Brook Farm, and could put together a good loop there.

AOF - What about the Harpoon ride at Great Brook this coming Sunday? So far I'm planning to go - I'll be bringin the SS.

PutAwayWet
July 6th, 2005, 09:12 AM
All you need is momentum to climb the log roll. If you try to pedal up it, you're doomed! I ride up it in the same gearing on my geared bike - it's just a matter of getting enough speed to get most of the way to the top before having to pedal at all.

Dan, I agree. I can't make it this sunday (big Bear Brook ride planned, see minkhiller's thread in the general forum) but would love to see the travelling SS circus continue.

I'll be there on my SS, maybe even rigid. I'm heading down to the Cape on Friday to ride Trail of Tears with some friends who live down there, then have a 60 mile road ride planned for saturday, then BB on sunday. I'm sweeping, fo sho!

I'm still on the fence for Sunday, it's either going to be the Harpoon ride or the Major Taylor TT in Worcester. If I do the hillclimb event it'll be on my rigid SS for sure.
