My Fox Vanilla RLC was set up out of the box with a spring rated for 155lbs to 180lbs. I weigh 175lbs. As a result the shock just might be too plush. A have a couple of extra springs. One is for lighter riders the other is rated for 175lbs to 205lbs. That spring might be too stiff. Should I go with the heavy spring, back off on the sag adjustment or is there an aftermarket spring that would put me right in the middle of those weight ranges.

The manual tells it pretty much the way it is in my experience. I'd think at 175 you would be able to get the right sag with stock spring (blue for 125 travel) and some (maybe a lot of) preload. At 195-200, I use green spring with no preload. You also may be able to change the feel of the fork by setting up your rear shock softer or with more damping.

Set up your shock acording to mfg recomendations, then ride the bike on a short-ish section of singletrack that workd the suspension. Set the suspension firmer, and re-ride the same route, then set the suspension softer and ridethe same loop again, noting the feel after each ride. Generally, you will find that the "generic" set-up is fine for most people.

So you see how my weight is at the end of one spring and the beginning of the other? I might try to thow the heavy spring in there to see what happens. It looks pretty easy to switch over.
