i'm new here and dont really know where to put this, anyways. i need a new bike. i currently ride an xc-type gary fisher marlin, 24 speed 3inch travel shock. i am starting to get interested in urban and technical (trials like) riding. i love wheelies, stoppies, drops and anything slow and technical. i am wondering what bike you think i should look for. i would like to be able to ride it occasionaly with my parents on smoother, less technical stuff to. any suggestions? i would like to spend under a grand. thanks.

There is ONLY one choice for you. That would be a Specialized P2.

Find a frame that is the right size for you and a color that you like from a "Real Bike" manufacturer. A hard tail with 5" single crown fork.
Then get the right components for your desired disaplines.
Disk brakes
free ride or down hill rims, and hubset.
Heavy duty crankset and bottom brackett
Flat pedals, good ones
2 rings and a bash gaurd up front, Short cage 9 speed rear.
heavy duty cassette and chain
Short stem, riser bars, lock on grips
Quick release on seatpost, smallish seat, chromoly rails.

A lot of riders doing park/street riding are running singlespeed these days - more reliable, less to break and cheaper. You can find a lot of that kind of bike in the 'for sale' section of the forum at bustedspoke.com. I've seen some pretty sweet ones sell for maybe $500 (with gears too if you'd like em).
There are a good few trials/street riders who post there that could give you more advice on specific setups.
