Hey, I was just wondering if anything has been resolved re: parking at Plains Park for 'nam riding. The commish seemed a tad "miffed" at bikers using the parking lot.
I know that I won't have to worry about it,but others might. I hope that our town rep ( Dave ? )was able to settle things.

Like I said, just wondering

Yeah, that was a surprise for sure. Wasn't it about non-residents rather then "bikers" that he had issue with parking there? (I guess there's a resident sticker he was looking for too)

splat,
the parking lot by the soccer fields was where we were parked.

Chris,
He seemed to take issue with bikers primarily. He asked if I was associated with NEMBA,since I was beside the trailer. At first he said he would have all cars with bikes/bike carriers towed. He said that they had put signs up for no parking down by the trail head. I said we knew that,so that's why everyone parked at the park. I told him I'd call the guy in charge, and we'd move if need be. He
relinquished his threat for immediate towing, and gave me his name and number, for someone to get in touch with him about a meeting to discuss this issue. He DID mention out of state cars with bikes, but his main concern, from what i could gather, was that he had "thousands of kids" playing soccer there, and we took up too many spots.
Like I said, I was just wondering if a meeting has been setup, or what might be going on. We sure don't want to have bikers towed because they don't know.

OH, and I had asked if there was any other place that we could park, like a municipal lot,and he said no. He never mentioned anything about town stickers either. Perhaps if stickers are needed, something could be worked out for bikers to purchase them, even if they're not townies" ?

Hopefully this is an isolated case and he only took notice because there were so many cars and no one using the fields. There must have been 30+ cars there.

Someone should definitely have a talk with them for future TM days and for general parking. Hopefully they just need a heads up for that many cars.

Vos,
Sorry, I gave the info to someone who was going to give it to someone else.
Maybe splat or Dave remembers who.

If they have issues with bikers parking there one solution might be to build a small dirt or gravel parking lot on the NEMBA land... assuming we have street frontage somewhere. Put up a nice big sign that says "Parking for NEMBA Members only - Biker's Take Notice."

Has anyone here had any problems parking in the Lowes or Target lot? When I ride Nam, this is where I typically park. So far, neither Target nor Lowes has raised a stink.

Uhhh........that wouldn't be good PR, would it ? Saying that it's only for NEMBA MEMBAS could make it seem "exclusionary"
sticky situation,what !?

That was sorta the idea... If we're not aloud to park in the town lots... only seems fair that if we build a lot the town can't park in ours... maybe not only for NEMBA Members... tow anyone without a bike rack ;D

Corrections, after checking Google Maps more closely:

If all else fails, I park at Louisa Lake, off Dilla Street. It is an easy spin through the woods to 495, then along the highway as you drop down to Rt 85. There's a nice older quarry in there, great for a dip.

I always thought we were supposed to park further away than the soccer field lot. Isn't there one further down, older, less nice, near a baseball field or something?

Problem with that is there is No frontage on the Nemba Land it is essentially Land locked.

now parking up at DIlla street ( and other lots around Milford ) is going to be come a real good solution. because they have begun work on the rail trail.

That could be bad if the land owners around us decide we can't cross their land... do we at least have a leagal right of passage?

the few times ive been there (weekends) ive used that back lot way behind wendys and some kinda office building. it faces a stone/brick wall and theres a trail that goes from there out the back and comes out on one of the off ramps for 495. i dony know if this is good for weekdays when that office may fill that lot. wendys customers certainly wont use it. i have seen other riders park there. its kind of an isolated little spot tho it wont handle ALOT of vehicles. then again my vehicles dont have racks to draw attention.

I am just getting back into mtb again (took a couple years off) and would like to hit nam. I had heard there is parking issues.

Could someone give me some parking suggestions so I won't get towed.

Thanks,

Jamie
