I just can't contain my excitement at the prospect of this upcoming HBO original epic series Rome. Check out the trailers here:

Violence, sex, history, violence, togas, sex and violence... what more could anyone ask for?

You gotta love HBO.

Although I'm still bitterly disappointed at the cancellation of Carnivale.

Me too! I love Roman history.
A nasty, brutish bunch they were, but absolutely fascinating. So advanced technologically, inventing the arch, the dome, concrete. Archeologists apparently even have found what is thought to be a rudimentary steam engine. I saw a picture a few years back of a bridge that the Romans built that was still being used, and of course there are still remnants of the countless roads they built.

We just might have to break down and order HBO again just for that.

Don't agree on Carnivale though, it never captured my attention.
Personally, I think Deadwood would be better if literally every other word was not f***, and every third work was not c*********. I sure they swore, but come on!!

My girlfriend would agree with you on that. She cringes at every recitation of the dreaded c-word. And she zones out during scenes of annexation dialogue.

The swearing doesn't bother me. Perhaps the specific terminology was different 120 years ago, but I think it is somewhat accurate to assume that an outlaw town was inhabited by the crudest of the crude. Taken in context, their language would likely reflect as being as crude as the inhabitants.

Al Swearengen is my most favorite HBO character of all time! Calamity Jane is my second fave. I just love those c**ks**kers!
